What Patch is Worlds 2022 On?

Publish Date: September 28, 2022

League of Legends is one of the most patched games in the world. This is in order to keep players on their toes with changes and make sure the meta in the game is never stale. Another major positive for it is for pro players to have to change how they play as well. This includes what is happening at the World Championships. Here is the answer for what Patch is Worlds 2022 On?

The meta leading up to Worlds was doing what it normally does, getting a bit stale. The bot lane was basically just Zeri and Sivir trading with Lulu and Yuumi. Many fans were already getting pretty tired of this. Even Ornn was being played quite a lot in the top lane. Along with this, picks like Azir and Poppy were being seen quite a bit in the mid and jungle respectively. Luckily, teams will have had less time and, for most, three new patches to work on.

With LoL Patch 12.16 came the new Udyr. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, he will not be playable at Worlds. In it, champions such as Catilyn, Diana, Jayce, Kai’Sa and Zoe saw some good buffs. Whereas the first nerfs for Draven, Poppy, Yuumi and most importantly Zeri came through.

Then in LoL Patch 12.17, the major nerfs of note were to Ahri, Azir, Nami, Sivir, Sylas, Trundle and Wukong. All of these champions were being seen pretty consistently across all regions. But, the buffs were already scaring most people. Camille, Graves, Hecarim, Rell, Sett and Twisted Fate made their way into the game. Hecarim was especially problematic and may play a major role at Worlds.

Then came the answer to the question of, what Patch is Worlds 2022 on? LoL Patch 12.18 will be the Worlds patch. This was a much smaller patch than the two before but still did a few potentially significant things in determining the Worlds Meta. Hecarim was nerfed, but will it be enough? Lulu was also hit in what could be a pretty big way. The buffs were to Ashe, Lee Sin and even Thresh.

Overall, this meta is certainly going to be interesting. The changes feel pretty significant and maybe even a bit telegraphed as to what the devs are wanting to see. Whether of not this becomes what happens at Worlds 2022 won’t be known until it starts on Thursday, 9/29/2022. Make sure to watch for more Worlds coverage coming soon.
