Week 1 Winners of the LCK Free Agency

Rui Yang XuBy Rui Yang XuNovember 26, 20194 Mins Read

With a hectic first week of free agency completed, the LCK saw a lot of movement including a crazy Day 1. With the Korean League of Legends scene changing with every move, which teams have taken the early advantage and made the rosters moves that will move them closer to a title? As many big-name players have already been signed and with some still on the move, let’s take a look at which teams have won out in the first week of free agency

SANDBOX Gaming

With a solid finish in 2019, SANDBOX still had quite a few spots they could make improvements in. Luckily, those changes came quickly into the off-season as SANDBOX would announce the signing of former Jin Air Green Wings ADC Moon “Route” Geom-su and former Misfits Gaming support Kang “Gorilla” Beom-hyun which should prove to be a huge upgrade if the duo can find their synergy together. Along with their bot lane, SANDBOX would also sign Yoo “FATE” Su-hyeok, the former mid laner for Challenger team Brion Blade. While Kim “Dove” Jae-yeon is still on the roster, the addition of FATE should provide a solid challenge to Dove for the starting spot and level up both players.

Finally, SANDBOX would announce their new coach in the former StarCraft 2 pro Terran player, Jung “FanTaSy” Myung Hoon. While it’s an interesting move considering all the coaches still available to pick up, it could work out for the team going forward. Out of all the coaching changes so far this off-season, the addition of FanTaSy will be the most interesting to keep an eye on.

Gen.G

There’s not much else that can be said for Gen.G’s amazing signings as they announced their full roster early into the off-season. At worst, the players that struggled last season will continue to do so and the team will still be a mid to top tier team anyways. However, if the team gels well and everyone is able to play well, this team are the early favorites to win it all.

At the end of the day, this team will go as far as the players and coaching staff want to take it. If players struggle or the coaching staff make questionable decisions, the team won’t do well. With all the talent on the team, however, it seems very unlikely.

KT Rolster

It’s still early into KT’s rebuild after a disastrous season, but the team is off to a good start. With the former Kingzone DragonX coaching staff signed on to take over in Kang “Hirai” Dong-hoon, Choi “supreme” Seung-min, and Choi “Acorn” Cheon-ju, the team’s coaching staffs won’t be a problem going forward. Along with a newly upgraded coaching staff, KT started their rebuild with the announcement of their new bot lane. First came the former ADC for the Afreeca Freecs in Kim “Aiming” Ha-ram and then one of the biggest free agents of the off-season in former Kingzone DragonX support Park “TusiN” Jong-ik.

Like most teams in the LCK right now, KT is off to a good start. But with players slowly getting signed away and the LPL continuing to take players away as well, they need to be quick and sign the rest of their roster. However, for a first week, KT’s signings have been great and put them ahead of the rest as one of the winners of the first week of free agency.
