According to a report by Kevin Hitt of the Sports Business Journal, TSM are pausing their esports efforts in several titles and the LCS team is “on the block”. This comes after TSM has been experiencing a lot of turnover from some of their high-ranking members. Here is the latest on what is happening and what could be coming next for the esteemed esports org.

Earlier in the day a Tweet by Kelby May, a former CLG employee and current Partnerships employee at LoadedGG Talent Management Firm, hinted at something coming for TSM fans.
Along with all of this, a statement from TSM CEO Andy “Reginald” Dinh stated that the org had hired and expanded too quickly and that the economy was affecting the org as a whole.
This most recent report shows that TSM are certainly in a bind and having to make tough decisions.
What Does This Mean?
When discussing what on the block means, it is not clear if this means on the chopping block completely, being sold to a different org or merging. What is does mean is that TSM may not be prioritizing the LCS as much as other spots. There is a clear reason why Kevin Hitt mentions this team in particular.
What is very likely is that Regi and whoever is still a top-level decision-maker at TSM are assessing their situation in anticipation of making moves to save the organization financially.
This is a very similar situation to what many different esports orgs are going through right now. The lack of funding coming in from investors and the lack of growth of esports has left a lot of organizations having to make tough decisions. Many of these are “trimming the fat” or getting rid of redundancies or positions that may not be of need.
Going Forward
Regi stated that it would take a minimum of four to five months for an announcement to come. That would be in July or August. This is conveniently right around when the LCS Summer Split would finish up. There is no doubt that changes are coming. TSM and LCS fans should buckle up for what could be a very unfortunate rest of 2023.
