PlayVS the leading amateur esports platform for College and High School competition has signed a multi-year deal with Riot Games to become the exclusive provider of High School League of Legends Seasons and Championships in the US. Schools across the country will have until February 14th to register for the Spring 2020 Season. They can signup here.
“PlayVS’ unique approach combines the recognition of state-sanctioned sports with an innovative technology platform, providing a great value for student competitors and a sustainable business model to ensure a stable future for high school esports,”- Matt Birris, Scholastic Program Lead at Riot Games
PlayVS was founded in January 2018 and has been working hard to set up an organized structure around High School and College Esports around the United States. Other than League of Legends, PlayVS also operates in Rocket League, Fortnite and SMITE. They have raised more than $96 million since their inception as well.
PlayVS and Riot have been working together for a little over a year and since then 18 states have officially partnered with PlayVS. They found that during the Fall 2019 season that 80% of the schools in the organization had at least one League of Legends team. With this partnership, students who are in the PlayVS leagues will have access to every League of Legends champion in the game. While this may not seem like a big deal, it allows the students to be able to play what is needed for their team and saves them quite a bit of time and money.
