Neeko Rework Abilities: A Chameleon for Real This Time

Publish Date: April 18, 2023

Neeko has long been a champion that has frustrated many League of Legends players. Whether it was because of her weird ability to do insanely builds or just that she never really felt like that champion that was initially intended, Neeko has been interesting. Because of that, Riot Game revealed that they were actually doing a mid-scope update or mini-rework of the champion. Now players are probably wondering what the Neeko Rework Abilities are?

Also known as The Curious Chameleon, Neeko released back at the end of 2018. That means she is one of the more recent champions to get a rework. The original goal was for her to be what her nickname would suggest, a chameleon. She would trick opponents by being something else and blend into her surroundings.

Unfortunately, this did not work entirely as intended. Because of that they have decided to give her a mini-rework and there is no doubt that this one will be interesting.

It was already shown at the beginning of the year that Neeko could transform into basically anything on the map. She can transform into minions, plants, gromps and so much more. This will truly allow for her to be the Chameleon that people were hoping for upon release. After that, not much else was revealed until she hit the PBE with the April 19, 2023 patch, 13.8.

Neeko Rework Abilities

  • Passive- “Inherent Glamour”: Neeko can disguise herself as an allied champion. When Neeko stands next to any allied or neutral unit she stories their Sho’ma, allowing her to disguise as the unit. Receiving immobilizing crown control or casting a damaging spell breaks the disguise.
  • Q- “Blooming Burst”: Neeko throws a seed that blooms to deal magic damage. If it kills a unit or hits a champion or large monster, it will bloom again, dealing magic damage. Max 2 extra blooms.
  • W- “Shapesplitter”: (Passive) Every 3rd attack deals bonus magic damage and increases Neeko’s Move Speed by 40% for 1 second. (Active) Neeko becomes invisible for .5 Seconds and projects a clone that lasts 3 seconds. Neeko and the clone gain 40% Move Speed for 3 seconds. Activate again to command the clone to target location.
  • E- “Tangle-Barbs”: Neeko slings a tangle that deals magic damage and roots for 1.5 seconds. The tangle becomes empowered after hitting an enemy, growing larger, moving faster, and rooting for 3 seconds.
  • R- “Pop Blossom”: After 1.25 seconds Neeko leaps into the ait. She suspends all nearby enemies while shes in the air. After 0.6 seconds Neeko lands and crashes the suspended enemies to the ground. She deals magic damage to all nearby enemies. The enemies remained stunned for a total of 1.25 seconds. This ability can be prepared in secret if Neeko is disguised.

The major changes are to Neeko’s passive and ultimate. But, every ability has some tweaks to it that make her feel better. It will be interesting to see if this is enough to push Neeko into pro play as well. For a video of the passive and other abilities, please watch below.
