With only three more days of games left, we still have seven teams fighting for the one remaining playoff spot. OMG, WE, LGD, VICI, Rogue Warriors, BLG and Suning are all still in the race. Today’s article will wrap up the final three days of the regular season of the Spring Split of the LPL.
Week 7: Day 6
Match 1: Vici vs Victory Five
Vici’s final match of the season will be versus Victory Five. As it stands, Vici has the easier shot to make it in to playoffs, with V5’s struggles being ever-present. Victory Five is currently 0:15 in the split, and are well on their way to lose their final match. To make matters even worse for them, V5 have only one single game win, in their loss vs LNG. As it currently stands, Vici are the favorites, and should they 2:0 they temporarily grab eighth place. Vici no longer has their fate in their own hands and depend on OMG slipping up one final time to make it in.
Prediction: Vici
Match 2: FunPlus Phoenix vs Rogue Warriors
Rogue Warriors got very unlucky with this match being one of their two remaining matches. The Warriors are one of the two teams besides OMG that have their fate in their own hands. But to keep it that way, Rogue Warriors would have to topple FPX. While yes, Rogue Warriors have been impressive in the final rounds of the split, it’s unlikely they have the juice to take on FPX. That said, if they do and they confirm a playoff spot in their final match, they will have an incredible morale boost.
Prediction: FPX
Match 3: Suning vs RNG
While they may have managed to lock in their playoff spot, RNG don’t look too hot right now. While they did manage to break their losing streak, it was versus Victory Five. And after that match they went right back to losing, falling 2-0 to Dominus. While Suning is one of the teams still in the race, they aren’t in the best position, and if Vici win versus Victory Five, they are eliminated from the race. That said, ending the season will a victory versus RNG would be a great way to get pumped for Summer. RNG, on the other hand, need to get in shape to fight in playoffs. They made it in but off the back of their great restart to the split. They need to prove they deserve to be a top tier team again.
Prediction: Suning
Week 7 Day 7
Match 1: JD Gaming vs LGD
Another team still in the race for playoffs, LGD will face off against JDG. LGD have had a wild split so far. They started off poorly but then took down TOP. After slumping back down, LGD seemingly regained their stability to try and make playoffs. Mid laner Yuuki has been stepping up tremendously and is a large factor in LGD’s playoff run. Versus JD, it will be a different game. Ever since Zoom rejoining the team, JDG have been on a rampage, and have confirmed their top-four playoff bye. LGD took down RNG, TOP and OMG at moments they all looked good. Can LGD perform their miracles one last time?
Prediction: JDG
Match 2: World Elite vs EDG
The other team with their fate still in their hands, World Elite need to find their stability, again. After a weak start to the LPL, they came back from the break crushing every other middle of the pack team. However, WE starting slipping, as their mid lane started to be a problem. With Plex underperforming, they resorted to Teacherma, who hasn’t been performing too well either. Coming off a loss to LNG, World Elite just threw away the match advantage they had versus OMG. EDG, on the other hand, are coming off a rough loss vs IG. With their playoff spot confirm but their top four bye dream all but dead, this match is more of a warm-up for playoffs.
Prediction: EDG
Match 3: Invictus Gaming vs LNG
In a match worth nothing but pride, LNG and Invictus Gaming will face off for their last act of the split. Invictus Gaming have confirmed their top two playoff bye and have had a very stable split so far. LNG, on the opposite side of the rift, had a rough split. After a good start, LNG fell off a cliff, losing every match between weeks 4 and 6, having only just ended the streak versus WE. With no chance to make it into playoffs, LNG have decided to bench both Asura and Flandre, possibly to give them some time to rest and recharge.
Prediction: Invictus Gaming
Week 5: Postponed matches
Match 1: Rogue Warriors vs LGD
On Saturday, April 4, China took a break in honor of the victims of COVID-19, and there were no LPL matches. They got postponed to the last day of the split. Rogue Warriors and LGD will kick off this day of postponed matches. Around the time this match was going to take place, neither team looked too hot, and playoffs seemed like a mile away. Now, both teams are still in the race, and the Warriors only depend on themselves. If they take down both FPX and LGD in 2-0 games, they will take the playoff spot, regardless of other results.
Prediction: LGD
Match 2: World Elite vs OMG
The most important of the matches left, OMG and World Elite will play for all the marbles. Every team below OMG will be hoping that they slip-up one final time, and if they do, the floodgates open. Vici are the team with the best shot, with BLG hot on their tail. World Elite themselves are still in the playoff race, but cannot fall 2-0 vs EDG. Then there is Rogue Warriors, who albeit unlikely still hold their own fate. This match will be the deciding match for the seven remaining teams. Will OMG keep their jobs as gatekeepers, or will World Elite break into playoffs, while keeping the gates open to other teams?
Prediction: OMG
Match 3: TOP vs FunPlus Phoenix
The final match of the regular season will be between TOP and FPX. FPX will be looking to confirm their top two playoff bye, while TOP will want to confirm their top four bye. In this match for the top of the table, TOP have their newest player, JackeyLove, already out on the rift. He started out in the stomp versus Victory Five, and he played versus eStar, where he managed to pick up player of the game. With JackeyLove’s return, TOP have looked like a whole new beast and have been performing much better.
Prediction: TOP
And with those matches, the LPL 2020 Spring Split will be concluded. The teams will have one day off and then will return for playoffs on Wednesday, April 22.
