LEC Power Rankings: 2022 Summer Split Week 5

Robert HanesBy Robert HanesJuly 21, 2022Updated:July 21, 20225 Mins Read

The LEC 2022 season started with G2 surprising everyone and rising to the top much earlier than anticipated. Now, everyone is playing catchup. Some teams made moves while others stayed put. Week 4 made the standings as tight as they possibly ever have been. It feels like nearly any team could win, except for one. Here are the LEC 2022 Summer Split Week 5 Power Rankings.

[Related: LEC Power Rankings: 2022 Summer Split Week 4]

    10. Team BDS (1-8)

    (Last Week: 10)

There’s a very clear last place team in the LEC and BDS are that team. One has to wonder how much longer they stick with Cinkrof? He has just looked rough in nearly every game this summer and was not all that great in the spring. Nothing on this team is really working and if BDS are even contemplating competing in 2023 they should start looking at signing/buying some players from the ERLs now.

    9. Astralis (4-5)

    (Last Week: 8)

The standings are so close right now and it’s terrible to have to place Astralis here. That said, one great week does not a team make, or something like that. Astralis almost took down the MAD Lions but it was not enough. That loss dropped them just below SK but really, they are looking so much better. If they can show some consistency then they will surely jump up quickly in these LEC Power Rankings.

    8. SK Gaming (3-6)

    (Last Week: 9)

Taking down G2 and Excel is no small feat. These are two teams that many thought could challenge for the top spot. Yet, they both had 0-2 weeks while SK have come roaring back for their first 2-0 of the summer. While Gilius will get a lot of the credit, Jezu, Sertuss and Treatz are really putting in the work for this team. SK are in a similar position as Astralis, consistent wins will help them climb.

    7. G2 Esports (4-5)

    (Last Week: 5)

G2 Esports have not won a game in the month of July. That is a crazy but true statement. Four straight losses have the MSI LEC representative nose-diving in the standings and these rankings. With how tight of a race the LEC is as a whole after the first round-robin, G2 will need to figure things out fast. If not, they have a chance to not even make playoffs with the way they are playing right now.

    6. Excel (5-4)

    (Last Week: 3)

If there is one team that is coming back to earth it is Excel. They are 1-3 in their last four games with their lone win coming against a terrible BDS team. This squad is very talented and should be able to challenge anyone in the LEC. They have to stop experimenting and going super early game only though. Their late game has suffered massively and is causing them to lose games where they have big leads. This team is good and their early game is excellent but if they do not figure out how to close games, they will be watching playoffs from home. Again.

    5. Vitality (5-4)

    (Last Week: 7)

A loss to Rogue is to be expected but beating Fnatic was not. Even with the big win, this team really lacks an identity. They are clearly a middling team at best right now with the ability to beat anyone. It could be coaching or players still lacking resources but Vitality need to find a rhythm. The grind does not stop as they have MAD and Misfits next.

    4. Fnatic (5-4)

    (Last Week: 1)

An 0-2 was certainly not expected for what should be one of the top teams in Europe. Instead, they are tied with three other teams for third. It has been weird because this team is way too talented to be 5-4. Yet it feels like every player on Fnatic are struggling in one way or another. Fnatic need to find wins and fast or they will be passed up.

    3. Misfits (5-4)

    (Last Week: 6)

Misfits are on a four-game winning streak with huge wins over MAD, Fnatic and G2. They have come charging back and look like their sping selves once again. With Vetheo playing like he wants two MVP’s in a row, Neon showing up in a big way and Irrelevant bringing stability to the top lane, Misfits are on a roll. This coming week, Misfits have an opportunity to really put some distance between them and other major players in Excel and Vitality.

    2. MAD Lions (6-3)

    (Last Week: 4)

Kaiser has to start getting some more love. Not only is he the best support in Europe but he is in the West and possibly a top-five support in the World. This MAD Lions team is fun, young and ready to kick anyone’s ass who crosses them. Nisqy was the perfect signing and with the way UNFORGIVEN is playing, the Lions can beat anyone.

    1. Rogue (7-2)

    (Last Week: 2)

The kings of the regular season are back and doing what they do best. Winning. The Comp signing was so much better than many may have thought while Malrang and Trymbi are out here assisting like Chris Paul. Rogue may be methodical and possibly boring to some but, they get the job done. This team looks great and have a chance to cement themselves as the top team in Europe this weekend against rivals Fnatic and G2.
