With some big matches across the board for teams this week, the power rankings saw some movement mainly in the top half of the standings. With some surprising results all around, let’s see where teams ended up in week 7 of the LCK power rankings. If you missed last week’s power ranking, you can check it out right here!
10.Jin Air Green Wings (-)
2-1 vs Afreeca Freecs
0-2 vs Hanwha Life Esports
Hell has frozen over and pigs have begun flying. The unthinkable has happened: Jin Air Green Wings have won a series in LCK. While their improvements from previous weeks have finally paid off in the form of a victory, there’s still not much for the team or their fans to cheer about.
The team remains in last place with relegation all but a guarantee and they must face the top four teams to finish off the season. While Jin Air was able to get a win this season, that’s likely where the fun ends for them as they remain at the bottom of the power rankings and actual standings.
9.Gen.G (-)
1-2 vs KT Rolster
With a single match on the schedule this week, Gen.G was unable to show any signs of improvement or hope as KT dominated them for most of the series. Instead, problems for the team has become much more noticeable.
Problems like top laner Lee “CuVee” Seong-jin’s inability to perform well on meta champions and falling back to what is likely a comfort pick in Gnar for all three games. Along with that, mid laner Song “Fly” Yong-jun continues to struggle, even on comfort champions like Zoe. All in all, the team continues to be an absolute mess as they’re in strong contention to likely join Jin Air Green Wings in relegation.
8.Afreeca Freecs (-)
1-2 vs Jin Air Green Wings
2-0 vs KT Rolster
Afreeca Freecs were very close to locking in 9th on the power rankings for the rest of the season after giving Jin Air Green Wings their first win of the season. However, after an amazing performance against KT Rolster, they’re able to maintain their spot at 8th. Unfortunately for Afreeca, the problem at the moment appears to be consistency.
While the team looked just as lost as Jin Air in their defeat to them, they were able to put on a completely different performance against KT Rolster. While this season is a lost cause, Afreeca can look ahead to the Summer Split, hopefully with a consistent starting roster to develop some much needed synergy and consistency together. For now, the team remains in 8th place in the power rankings.
7.KT Rolster (-)
2-1 vs Gen.G
0-2 vs Afreeca Freecs
After a week break, KT came in swinging with their victory against Gen.G. Highlights of the series included some stellar plays from jungler Go “Score” Dong-bin , especially on his signature Hillbilly Gragas along with mid laner Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong putting on a show with Yasuo. However, KT was unable to move up the standings as their week ended with a rough defeat at the hands of Afreeca Freecs.
For KT, the problems of the team are similar to Afreeca, inconsistency. While Bdd has been great all season, the rest of the team has been all over the place. Although their ceiling could be higher than Afreeca, it still relies on the team finding the consistency they currently lack. While they look for it, they’ll remain at 7th in the power rankings.
6.Hanwha Life Esports (-)
2-0 vs Jin Air Green Wings
Not much action for Hanwha Life Esports this week with a single match against Jin Air Green Wings. With their victory, all the easy wins are gone now. If the team wants to make playoffs, they’ll have to get past the likes of DAMWON Gaming and SK Telecom T1 to make the push into a playoff spot. Will they be able to make it? Only time will tell.
5.DAMWON Gaming (-3)
1-2 vs SANDBOX Gaming
0-2 vs Kingzone DragonX
Another rough week for DAMWON sees them dropping back down to 5th in the power rankings. With their losses to SANDBOX and Kingzone, DAMWON will have to continue fighting for a spot in the playoffs as a result. While they should still be able to make the push into the playoffs, their recent play has been all over the place.
As a result, even if the team were to make the playoffs in their current state, it’s questionable as to whether they would be able to keep up against the top teams in the league, who have all proven to be consistent teams.
4.Kingzone DragonX (-)
2-0 vs DAMWON Gaming
Although Kingzone DragonX only had a single game this week, there was a lot of positives to be taken away by their victory. The main positive from their victory was that ADC Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu wasn’t dominating every game. Instead, players like jungler Moon “Cuzz” Woo-chan and mid laner Heo “PawN” Won-seok took over and dominated DAMWON.
Going into the playoffs, this will be important if Kingzone wants to succeed in the playoffs. Otherwise, the team can be easily abused as they were by SK Telecom T1 the previous week. With an easy week coming up, Kingzone can easily lock in a spot in the playoffs with a 2-0 week. Hopefully, they can build off of the positives of this week.
3.SANDBOX Gaming (+2)
2-1 vs DAMWON Gaming
0-2 vs Griffin
Despite the 1-1 week, SANDBOX Gaming has begun returning to their early season form as their individual performances have become amazing once again. ADC Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun put on a show in their victory against DAMWON, dying a single time the entire series.
Along with that, jungler Kim “OnFleek” Jang-gyeom was on point as he was making plays all across the map on the likes of Jax and Olaf. Going into the playoffs, SANDBOX have made a strong case to being the third best team behind SK Telecom T1 and Griffin.
2.SK Telecom T1 (+1)
1-2 vs Griffin
SK Telecom T1 were so close to dethroning Griffin and ending their run for a perfect season. While the team fell short, they have shown that they’re on Griffin’s level as well. There’s no way for this author to properly describe how amazing the back and forth series between SKT and Griffin was. Instead go take the time and watch it yourself here.
With matches against the likes of Jin Air Green Wings and Afreeca Freecs remaining, SKT can likely relax a bit as their playoff spot is all but assured. While they continue to play for a better spot in the playoffs, fans now must wait patiently for the rematch between SKT and Griffin.
1.Griffin (-)
2-1 vs SK Telecom T1
2-0 vs SANDBOX Gaming
The kings of Korea were able to barely hold on to their throne this week as they remain undefeated. While the 2-0 victory over SANDBOX Gaming was easy for the team, their victory against SK Telecom T1 was hard fought and very back and forth. If one or two plays went the other way, Griffin could’ve been sitting here with a 11-1 record instead.
For now, though, Griffin survives the final big challenge to their undefeated season. With six games remaining, it’s hard to see any team left that can end their undefeated season. As such, Griffin remain at first in the power rankings and will likely sit there for the rest of the season.
