After months of competition in the LCK, two intense splits, two playoffs and some of the best League of Legends in the world, two teams now remain in the battle for the final spot at Worlds. On one side, Kingzone DragonX, a team filled with veterans that everyone counted out to start the season. After tough losses and internal issues that plagued the team, they have one last chance at Worlds. Trying to stop them and achieve their own dreams of Worlds qualification is DAMWON Gaming, a team of rookie players that have struggled through various points of the season, but as a result, have learned and become one of the best teams in Korea. Now, with everything they have learned and improved on, the team will try to join their former Challenger Korea friends in Griffin at Worlds.
In a battle of old versus new, which team will prevail? Will Kingzone complete their all-kill of the gauntlet and show it’s not quite time for the youngsters to take over? Or will DAMWON beat them out and show that the future is now? Take a look and find out!
It turns out Moon “Cuzz” Woo-chan is pretty good at this League of Legends game. After crushing SANDBOX Gaming 3-1 thanks to the amazing performance of jungler Cuzz, Kingzone now find themselves in the final round of the gauntlet. With key players like the aforementioned Cuzz and ADC Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu continuing to dominate, the team has looked unstoppable like before. Along with that, the rest of the team has found their stride once again as players like top laner Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee had some great performances as well on champions like Irelia.
Now they find themselves one series away from Worlds. As long as the team can maintain their current level of play, they could easily be the favorites heading into the final match of the LCK in 2019.
Much like SANDBOX Gaming, DAMWON come into the final round of the gauntlet after a crushing loss to SK Telecom T1 in the playoffs. As a result, the team will have no momentum heading into the series against Kingzone. If DAMWON want to come out of the gauntlet as the victor, they need to look towards some amazing performances from the solo laners in top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon and mid laner Heo “ShowMaker” Su. Along with that, jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu needs to play at his MVP level and keep up against Cuzz; if Canyon struggles, DAMWON could be in trouble.
With this important final match with Worlds qualification on the line, DAMWON needs to put their loss to SKT in the past and focus on the now. Kingzone is looking great so far and DAMWON will need to match them. As long as the top half of the map shows up and can have a strong showing, DAMWON should have a good chance at winning it all.
With Kingzone’s recent performances it’s hard to bet against them. Especially when you consider how DAMWON’s mental state is heading into this match after their defeat at the hands of SKT. While on paper DAMWON should take this, Kingzone’s recent performances can’t be ignored. In the end, this series will likely go to Kingzone by a score of 3-1. While Canyon should be able to keep up against Cuzz and potentially take over, Deft has shown time and time again that he can take over the game himself and win it all. No matter which team wins this series, it will hopefully be a great one to watch.
