Jatt to Step Down from Team Liquid

Publish Date: June 24, 2021

In a press release, Team Liquid made it known that Josh “Jatt” Leesman, would be stepping down as Head Coach with Jonas “Kold” Andersen coming in as the interim coach. This will come as a bit of a surprise considering Team Liquid are still a top-four team in the LCS and are coming off a Spring Finals appearance. That said, some leaks had said that Jatt was being forced to leave Team Liquid, although this has yet to be substantiated.

During a press conference, Team Liquid Co-CEO, Steve Arhancet, made it clear that Jatt felt that the team could perform better without him. Also that this had been something they were discussing for some time. The official resignation was two days ago according to Arhancet.

What Next?

Sadly during this press conference and on Twitter, it was also announced that Lucas “Santorin” Larsen would also be stepping away due to health concerns. These are stemming from his migraine issues and the TL have confirmed that his health is the main focus. For now Jonathan “Armao” Armao will be stepping in as he did during the Spring Playoffs. It was confirmed as well that he will be in the position until Santorin is medically cleared to come back. This means it could be in the next few weeks or potentially next year, no timetable was given.

As for the rest of Team Liquid, many thought that this press conference was to announce that Barney “Alphari” Morris would be coming back this weekend. According to Arhancet, the plan is still to have Alphari back for the team’s Sunday game. Which just happens to be against TSM.

Team Liquid will certainly have major questions that need to be answered over the next few weeks. It also comes at a thought time considering they have Evil Geniuses, scorching hot CLG and the aforementioned TSM this weekend. How TL handle these major changes will certainly affect their ability to make a deep playoff run and achieve their goal of making it to Worlds.
