In the second week of the LCS 2021 Summer Split and up against some strong teams, Dignitas managed to walk away with a win going 1-2. Despite the losing record, DIG still showed some promise and have a lot to look forward to in the remaining weeks of the season as they sit in fifth place. Here are five takeaways from the week two performance of Dignitas.
1. Yusui has potential
After what many saw as a controversial roster change in the Dignitas mid lane, David “Yusui” Bloomquist played surprisingly well in his debut weekend. The American Mid Laner played Akali against Team Liquid and Cloud 9 and performed well despite the rest of DIG not doing well. In DIG’s only win against Immortals, Yusui played Lulu and looked good in the support role. DIG steamrolled IMT, so it’s hard to say how much credit Yusui deserves from the win but it will be interesting to track his performance in the upcoming weeks.
2. Bot Side Strong Side
In their win against Immortals, Dignitas showed the strength behind their Bot Lane of Toàn “Neo” Trần and Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black. With the help of Jungler Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett, Neo managed to secure five early kills on Samira. This allowed Neo and DIG to snowball out of control, securing an easy win over IMT. DIG must continue playing to the comfort of their AD Carry and Support duo if they want to be successful in this Split. Combining this with their already strong team fighting can create a very scary sight for other LCS teams.

3. No More Neo Support
After such a strong performance with Samira against Immortals on Saturday, it was quite surprising to see Neo on the Seraphine against Cloud 9 on Sunday. The pick was obviously to support Dardoch’s Xin Zhao after Karma and Lulu were both banned but it was just lackluster from start to finish. From the team losing an early 5v4 in top river to Neo misclicking his ultimate right before a key dragon fight, the AD Carry looked weak all game. As mentioned previously, Dignitas have a very strong Bot Lane and should continue playing to this strength by having Neo on a traditional AD and not a Support champion.
4. Ban Gwen
After having 100 Theives Top Laner Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho single-handedly destroy Dignitas with his Gwen in week one, the team fell victim to the strong champ once again in their game against Cloud 9. Top laner Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami got the champion and seemed to be having a field day on her, wreaking havoc to all of the members on DIG. Banning Gwen in future games would be a smart move for DIG not just because she is very strong currently but also because her kit allows for her to completely ruin the enemy team’s team fighting, something DIG focus on heavily.
5. Stop Giving Up Free Objectives
In both games against Team Liquid and Cloud 9, Dignitas looked completely lost on several occasions as a team when it came to fighting for objectives, especially dragons. Most notably in their game against TL, DIG gave up soul without the slightest of contests, something that is simply just unacceptable. This falls on the hands of veterans Dardoch and Aphromoo as it is their responsibility as shot callers to make sure their team is on the right page and prepared to fight for objectives. If DIG can’t stop looking like solo queue players when it comes to fighting for objectives, then the black and yellow are in for a long season.
