LCS Recap: Clutch Gaming vs TSM

Publish Date: June 15, 2019

After a strong Week 2, Clutch Gaming were looking to solidify a winning record against TSM. However, TSM looked to improve their record after a so-so start to their Summer. Recap of how the match played out below.

Draft

CG VS TSM Draft

TSM began their draft by taking away Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon’s signature pick, Rumble. However, due to TSM leaving Aatrox up for CG, Nam “Lira” Tae-yoo happily took the powerful champion into the jungle. Clutch then drafted the lover’s duo into the bot lane. TSM answered back with the super long ranged bot lane duo of Caitlyn and Lux. Tanner “Damonte” Damonte and Huni then drafted Neeko and Gangplank respectively. TSM drafted to play aggressively in the mid and top lane, forcing Huni and Damonte to provide some answers in their respective solo lanes.

Early Game

Lira

Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen and Andy “Smoothie” Ta utilized their aggressive laning phase to catch Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme for an easy first blood. After realizing how much bot lane pressure there was, Lira roamed down and secured himself a double kill to answer for TSM’s first blood. Despite CG having the kill advantage, TSM had control of almost every neutral objective and tower available. TSM summoned the Rift Herald after Damonte backed giving themselves an opportunity to take down tower plates in the midlane. Furthermore, TSM utilized their pressure across the map to take 8 turret plates, before Clutch managed to find even one. Clutch couldn’t seem to find any gold advantage anywhere with TSM being ahead in farm in every lane at 15 minutes.

Things began to spin out of control for Clutch as TSM took the botlane tower just seconds after 15 minutes. TSM then took the first drake of the match, giving themselves more control over neutral objectives. Clutch looked to turn things around with a team fight in the midlane. However, TSM held their ground and managed to get out trading supports. After the team fight, TSM took another drake to solidify their lead over CG. In another team fight, Clutch attempted to claw their way back into the match. TSM played extremely well, managing to kill Damonte, while not losing any members in the process.

With every advantage in their pocket, TSM quickly took both mountain drake and the baron buff, while also getting a kill onto Damonte along the way. They began sieging the Clutch base taking down every inhibitor turret and two inhibitors before backing. To ensure victory, TSM took baron buff one more time and solidified their win over Clutch Gaming.

Final Thoughts

Clutch Gaming fans shouldn’t be too down after this loss. CG managed to hold things together for quite a long time, despite having a massive gold disadvantage. Furthermore, Lira fully came into his own this match and proved that CG has another weapon in their arsenal. If Clutch continues to play well and bans out aggressive laners like Caitlyn during their next match against Flyquest, CG may come out with another win.
