Cloud9 Welcome Back Jensen for 2022 Summer Split

Publish Date: May 12, 2022

Cloud9 has gone through some drastic changes in just a single split. They lost their head coach a few weeks into the year. While they had a strong split, the playoff run was atrocious. The team swapped their supports in order to find a spark, but continued to struggle against top teams. Even the MVP top laner would fail to perform, and was eventually let go by the team once the split concluded. Cloud9 went into the mini-offseason with a plan to reshape their roster. In the end, the prolific North American org would find itself going back to its roots.

To fill the hole in midlane, Cloud9 called upon the player whose departure created the void all those years ago. Late on Wednesday May 11, Cloud9 announced the return of Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen as the team’s LCS mid laner.

Rumors began to swirl after the collapse of Cloud9 that the team would be completely abandoning their spring project in favor of familiar faces. It looks like those rumors had some truth in them, as now Jensen and Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen return to the main stage. Zven was in an odd spot last split, as he was both on the Academy roster, but couldn’t play matches due to the import restrictions. He will serve as the team’s second roleswapping player in two splits, as he now takes the support role alongside stand out ADC Min-cheol “Berserker” Kim.

Jensen inexplicably did not find a team after a successful season with Team Liquid in 2021. Many fans were speculating he would find a home with one of the perennial contenders that were in need of a mid laner heading into spring.
