2023 Spring Review

After years of consistency with basically the same roster, 100 Thieves finally switched things up in 2023. They kept Closer while bringing up Tenacity and Busio. To round things out, they added the veteran core of Bjergsen and Doublelift. A duo who have multiple LCS titles under their belt, especially when playing together. Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan.

100 Thieves would end up 10-8 after going on a very strong run to end the split in third. They would be bounced from the playoffs losing to FlyQuest in a quick 3-0 and then 3-2 to Golden Guardians who would surprise everyone and go to MSI. This team had a lot of promise and struggled to live up to very lofty expectations.

2023 Summer Split Roster

Top- Ssumday

Jng- Closer

Mid- Quid

Bot- Doubelift

Sup- Busio

This is certainly a much different feel from the 2023 Spring roster. With Tenacity and Bjergsen gone, the additions of Ssumday and Quid bring with them plenty of questions. Ssumday has underperformed some recently but the hope will be that he is able to find it again with Closer. Then Quid was a bit of a surprise addition, to say the least. He is an interesting prospect but one that may not live up to the expectations of being a Korean mid. Luckily what helped 100 Thieves win games last year was the bot lane. Extra time for DL and Busio should only make them stronger.

Predicted Spring Placement: 4th

Potential Range for the Team: 2nd – 7th

There are a lot of questions coming into the Split with this squad. A brand new mid, a returning top laner and a new coach are a lot to change in the Summer. With a lot less time for Closer to work with two different solo lanes from last Split, one can expect to see him needing time to gel. Even with Ssumday who he played most of his LCS games together.

That means the onus will fall to Doublelift and Busio as it did last Split. While they were able to push the team past the finish line for the regular season, they were unsuccessful in doing so in Playoffs. With a strategy that will be pretty easy to predict, teams should not have trouble game-planning for 100 Thieves.

Instead, it will come down to execution and getting the top side of the team on the same page as quickly as possible. Expect this Split to look pretty similar to last Split, at in terms of the regular season.
