How do sites like Onyx Odds work?
Online platforms like Onyx Odds are social sportsbooks, which use virtual currencies for betting. So, they stay in a separate zone from traditional sites that use money. Thanks to this, they’re legal in many US states.
The virtual currencies in question are Gold Coins (GC) and Sweepstakes Coins (SC), but some sites customize these names. For instance, in our
Onyx Odds review, we got Onyx Coins for Gold Coins and Onyx Cash for Sweepstakes Coins.
When you join a site like Onyx Odds, first spot which virtual currency is GC or SC. Both play different roles. With GC, you’re only betting for fun and entertainment. On the flip side, you can redeem SC for real prizes after meeting the playthrough and eligibility requirements.
You’ll get GC and SC from free promotions, beginning with the welcome offer after registration. Also, there’s the option of purchasing GC packages, but it’s entirely optional. You can’t buy SC in the same way, but social sportsbooks include free SC as bonuses in some GC packages.

How to choose the best Onyx Odds alternatives
We don’t judge a book by its cover, or a social sportsbook like Onyx Odds in this case. Instead, we take our time to sign up and test all aspects of the platform that matter. That’s how we selected the top alternatives on the banners of this page.
Check out the factors on our radar during the review process below:
Supported states
In the US, online betting laws shift from state to state. So, while social sportsbooks like Onyx Odds are legal, they don’t welcome users from a few locations. Onyx Odds itself supports 36+ states out of the 50.
The first stop in our reviews is to check where each Onyx Odds alternative is available. Sites that cover more states rank higher on our top list, and this info must be clearly stated in the terms and conditions.
Featured sports and markets
If an Onyx Odds alternative doesn’t list popular sports and markets, we can’t call it a social sportsbook. At Onyx Odds, we found 8+ sports, covering leagues such as the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, UFC, and more. When picking a different site, it should offer the same or better.
Market-wise, the standard options are moneyline, spread, and total. We call these the Big 3, and they’re present on all
top social sportsbooks. However, for depth, we prefer sites like Onyx Odds that have a solid lineup of props. That’s where the action lies, and these are some we check for:
| Sports league |
Popular prop markets |
| NFL (Football) |
Anytime Touchdown Scorer, Player Passing Yards, Player Rushing Yards, Team Total Points |
| NBA (Basketball) |
Player Points, Rebounds, Assists, Threes Made, Double-Double |
| MLB (Baseball) |
Player Hits, Home Runs, Pitcher Strikeouts, Runs Scored |
| NHL (Hockey) |
Player Goals, Assists, Total Saves, Team Shots on Goal |
| MLS/international leagues (Soccer) |
Anytime Scorer, Clean Sheet, First Goal, Total Corners |
Odds juice
Social sportsbooks differ from traditional betting sites, but they don’t offer a 100% probability in odds. There’s still a built-in margin, also known as the juice. This figure determines your GC or SC return for correct predictions, and the lower it is, the better.
While reviewing Onyx Odds Sportsbook, the odds were steady at a less than 5% margin. That’s decent because it means a 95% return if you nail your picks with Onyx Coins or Onyx Cash. We carry out this math check for each alternative we test. Sites with a juice of over 8% don’t get our thumbs-up.
This factor matters because you need virtual currencies for social sports betting. Onyx Odds hands out 1,000 Onyx Coins as a welcome bonus, which is cool for a start. Moving on, you get parlay boosts, social media giveaways, and referral rewards.
For us, the best alternative sportsbooks should also have such a mix of promotions. Those with SC in their welcome bonus and a fixed daily login reward system are better, and a VIP club tops it all off.
Usability
Onyx Odds is a mobile-only social sportsbook, which doesn’t work on a PC. You can only bet on the platform using a smartphone or tablet browser, as there’s also no
Onyx Odds app.
Our experience on the Onyx Odds mobile site is always smooth sailing, as everything is well-arranged. Still, we know some bettors prefer having an iOS or Android app or desktop access.
So, we carefully rate the best Onyx Odds alternative sportsbooks based on usability. If a brand has a dedicated app, it scores high in our grading system. Those with desktop support also get extra points, even though the majority of social bettors use mobile.
Prize redemptions
After betting with SC and satisfying the requirements, you’ll want to redeem real prizes without hassles. In our experience, this process is what separates solid social sportsbooks from the forgettable ones.
At Onyx Odds, for example, the minimum redemption is just 20 Onyx Cash, which is pretty easy to complete. Many alternatives require 100 SC. However, Onyx Odds only allows prize redemptions through bank transfers.
While reviewing, we check for sites like Onyx Odds with more redemption payment methods like e-wallets and gift cards. Also, we ensure processing doesn’t take forever.
Customer service
We always say customer service can break or make a bettor’s experience. That’s a fact, especially if you’re new to social sportsbooks like Onyx Odds. Therefore, we test the support system on each alternative and how the agents respond.
Live chat is our main focus, as Onyx Odds doesn’t have it. Also, we want to see a quick email channel, which comes in handy for technical matters that require more detail. Phone number is a plus for payment-related hiccups.
One of our
top tips for gameplay at Onyx Odds
is to reach out to the brand on social media if anything is unclear. If your selected alternative also has open DMs, consider doing the same.

Are there Onyx Odds sister sites?
Right now, there’s no official Onyx Odds sister site. Onyx Game LLC runs the platform solo, and we haven’t seen any other social sportsbook or sweepstakes casino from the company.
That’s not a problem because if you want something different from Onyx Odds, a sister site won’t make the cut. Only social sportsbooks from other brands will, and you can select them from the banners on this page.
