While sharing similar names, Stake.us and Stake.com operate under completely different business models. If you read our
Stake.us review, you would see that it functions as a social sweepstakes casino, offering free-to-play games using two virtual currencies:
Gold Coins
and
Stake Cash (Sweepstakes Coins). In contrast, Stake.com operates as a cryptocurrency gambling platform where users engage in real-money betting.
- It's crucial to note that
Stake.com
is strictly prohibited in the United States, with access being automatically blocked for all US-based users.
- Stake.us, however, maintains legal status in most US states, though availability varies depending on local gambling regulations.
Let's delve deeper into the legal framework surrounding Stake.us and what it means for American players.
Is Stake legal in the US?
Stake.us is legal in the US because it operates as an online social casino, often referred to as a sweepstakes casino. Unlike Stake.com, it is not a true online gambling casino, which is illegal in most states.
Ever wondered if you can use Stake in the US? We found that
Stake.us is legal
in most states of the US because it is classed as a social casino, rather than an online casino. As there is no opportunity to place real cash wagers, any states that have strict gambling laws relating to online casinos do not apply here. Because of the free-to-play nature of social casinos, sites like Stake.us are widely available across the US.

Pros and cons of Plinko
- Generous RTP%
- Based on classic Japanese game

When developing
Plinko, Stake.us was inspired by Japanese pachinko machines. Rules are quite simple: you are given a ball that you will release on the top of the pyramid made of pins. To win, you must guess which compartment the ball will land in. The prizes are lowest in the pyramid's center, and the further you go to the edges, the greater the reward will be. You can set the risk factor of the game by choosing a low, medium, or high setting. The game has an impressive RTP of 99%.

Where Is Stake.us Legal: States Stake.us has recently been banned in
Even though Stake.us is available in most states in the US, this is always changing as individual laws and regulations develop. Since the start of 2025 we have seen a handful of states restrict Stake.us, such as: Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia. Even though these all have real-money online casinos, sweepstakes have been seen as competitors hence why Stake.us was banned in these locations.
Connecticut, and Maryland have also recently restricted Stake.us after looking into their own state interpretations of gambling. It was noted that sweepstakes are a form of gambling under their state laws. Following on from this, Louisiana and Montana have declared sweepstakes casinos to be illegal. The most recent addition to the restricted states list was Arizona, Stake.us cut its services with the state after regulators served cease-and-desist letters. California banned sweepstakes casinos as of January 1, 2026. So, Stake.us is no longer legal to operate in CA.

These are the states Stake.us has left, or is about to leave, since late 2025. We update this list whenever the Stake.us Terms change.

Redeem your sweepstakes prizes
You might be wondering why sweepstake casinos are legal in most US states when real-money online gambling ones are forbidden. The laws are not uniform across the states, but there are some common things that sweepstakes casinos need to fulfill. There are many specific factors that come into play that allow social casinos to operate, but there are two that are the most important.
- At social casinos, all the games can be played completely for free. For example, you can start at Stake.us by claiming an exclusive offer with code
TGHSOCIAL
that will get you 25 Stake Cash + 560,000 Gold Coins + 5% Rakeback on all your losses.
- You won’t play with money at social casinos. Instead, social casinos have special coins called Sweepstake Coins, which can be redeemed for cash prizes.

Understanding the legality of sweepstakes casinos like Stake.us
By now, you’ll understand that Stake.us is legal across most states in the US. However, you might still be a little confused about how this is possible. After all, sweepstakes casinos use a fairly unusual range of virtual currencies, and the prize redemption process is equally complex. So here are the key things to understand about sweepstakes casinos such as Stake.us:
The main reason why Stake.us is available in so many states is due to the fact that it doesn’t feature any real money gambling. This means that it isn’t subject to the same kinds of gambling laws that govern standard online casino sites.
So rather than wagering with real money, you will be playing with virtual credit called Gold Coins and Stake Cash. The Gold Coins simply let you play for fun, while the Stake Cash is used to enter the promotional sweepstakes.
One of the main things that all legal sweepstakes casinos need to do is to allow customers to enter their sweepstakes with no purchase necessary. This means that you can potentially redeem a prize without it costing you a single cent.
As such, you can go to pretty much any sweepstakes casino and get free credit to play with via promos such as welcome offers, daily login bonuses, and social media giveaways. For example, if you
sign up to Stake.us
using the exclusive
TGHSOCIAL
code, you will get 25 Stake Cash that you can use to enter the sweepstakes for free. This SC stash also comes with a 5% Rakeback and 560,000 Gold Coins.
No direct real money winnings
It’s important to understand that you don’t directly win money from sweepstakes casino sites. The closest thing you get to this is the ability to redeem prizes as a result of taking part in the promotional sweepstakes.
For example, if you play the casino games at Stake.us with the Stake Cash form of virtual currency, you will be playing in the sweepstakes mode and have the potential to win more Stake Cash. Once you have played through your Stake Cash at least three times, you may then be able to redeem a variety of prizes, including cryptocurrencies, gift cards, and even some branded merchandise.
No facility for accepting deposits
In order to play at regular real money online casinos, you will have to make a real money deposit. However, it’s very different at sweepstakes casinos. Not only do these sites have to let you play for free, but you cannot actually make deposits at sites like Stake.us.
The closest thing that you can do to this is to purchase one of the Gold Coin packages. Remember that Gold Coins can only be used to play the casino games in standard mode, which means that there is no chance of being able to redeem any prizes. However, it’s worth noting that every time you purchase Gold Coins, you may be in with a chance of receiving some free Stake Cash as a bonus.

Stake.us vs real money online casinos
As you now know, Stake.us operates under a sweepstakes model, so the main differences when looking at them in comparison to real money online casinos are the way they work and how they are regulated.
Real money casinos require you to deposit funds, which can then be wagered across different games. Any winnings on these are paid out in cash and is set up in line with your state's gambling laws
Following the sweepstakes model, Stake.us uses virtual currencies for their players to enjoy the selection of games and you do not need to make an initial deposit to use the site. The virtual currencies are:
- Gold Coins (GC), used for free play and cannot be redeemed for prizes later on.
- Stake Cash (SC), used in promotional play modes and can be redeemed for prizes once you meet the minimum play through requirement (1x) and the minimum amount required for rewards.
The general feel and experience of real money casinos compared to Stake.us are also different. You will find that with online real money casinos, there is a bigger push on cash winnings, whereas Stake.us focuses on the entertainment side, even having their own community features. The games also differ, real money casinos are very slot heavy whereas, Stake.us has other options such as their own originals.
From this you will also find that the offers available are completely different, while Stake.us does have some optional purchase bonuses, you will see that the offers mainly focus around social media giveaways, competitions, and daily log in bonuses. Real money casinos do not typically have these types of offers.
Staying safe and legal at Stake.us
Because Stake.us is a legit casino gaming platform, it has to do much more than just abide by the sweepstakes rules in the states where it operates. The sweepstakes casino will have to ensure that it can take good care of its customers. Stake.us does this in the following ways:
Verifying your identity
Stake.us will carry out robust checks to make sure that you are at least 21 years old and that you are playing from one of its legal states. This means that you will have to undergo a strict verification procedure once you have created your Stake.us account. The good news is that it’s pretty easy to do this, as you can verify your account just by providing some photo ID like your driver’s license or passport.
Just because you are playing with virtual credit doesn’t mean that you can afford to be reckless in how you play. This is something that all good sweepstakes casinos understand, and you’ll be given some responsible play tools accordingly. For example, at Stake.us, you are given flexible ways to initiate a break in play, or you can even take more severe measures, such as completely excluding yourself from the site.
Keeping your data and payments secure
You will have to give Stake.us access to some fairly sensitive personal information when you sign up, and you might even purchase some Gold Coins, too. If you prefer crypto for GC bundles, here’s exactly how
Stake.us Tether
(USDT) works, including limits, fees, and transfer tips. The good news here is that Stake.us runs a fully encrypted site that features SSL-level technology to safeguard all of your potentially sensitive personal details. This is something backed up by the brand’s privacy policy, and you’ll also see how Stake.us recommends that you employ multi-factor authentication to ensure that only you get to access your account.
