Honor of Kings (HoK) first appeared on the Chinese market back in 2015. This game is also called “King of Glory” (KoG) in some esports spaces. The game was developed by TiMi Studio Groups and was thereafter published by Tencent Games for major apps, iOS and Android.
However, the game was predominantly used in mainland China. Since the app was so successful in China, developers Timi decided to create an alternative adaptation to this game, naming it “Arena of Valor”. Although classed as different to HoK, the structure and base game remains the same as HoK.
Is Honor of Kings the same as League of Legends?
Critics have argued that Honor of Kings style of play seems to have followed the already-established game, League of Legends, due to a few similarities. For example, League of Legends (LoL) characters are very similar to those appearing in HoK. The nature of the game also follows the same path, with the battle of teams being 5 onto 5. The aim of the game is very alike, too, with the player that first destroys the main enemy base construction, Nexus, being awarded winner status.
Honor of Kings now Worldwide
Since this predominantly far East game has ventured to the Western world, and been a big hit in the process, it has now been translated into many additional languages. Moreover, HoK now boasts to have 200+ active servers stationed around the globe; the majority are located in China.

Do I need an Esports betting site to play HoK?
Esports have been growing in popularity since the early to mid part of last decade, so it is not uncommon to find
esports betting
situated on a standard, mainstream betting site. However, these games are usually either the most popular games available, and if you want to search for anything more specific, or niche, it would be best to visit an esports-only betting website.
Depending on whether an esports betting operator, or standard betting operator is needed, here are a few pointers to help decide to select the best Honor of Kings betting website.
New to Esports betting?
For users new to esports betting, it may be a wise choice to visit the website and check the usability of the site. Is the site easy to navigate around and does the menu navigation system suit how you wish to operate? For players who are only used to a standard betting site, an esports betting site may appear overwhelming at first glance, so it’s important to assess.
Honor of Kings welcome bonus
The welcome bonus is the tempting reward betting operators use to entice new custom. Companies offer new players a generous match deposit bonus with an up to date promo code. Always check for any appealing welcome bonuses on offer.
Payment options
Players will want to ensure that they can access winnings as quickly as possible from a desired payment option. It is recommended to check the payment option on offer.
How to use an Honor of Kings betting site
Honor of Kings provides many different betting markets to play. These include pre-game and in-play markets. However, it is recommended that newer players to HoK avoid the in-play markets, until they have gained some player experience. The reason for this is the in-play markets can be chaotic and consequently the odds are often volatile, since there are all kinds of action happening simultaneously. Nevertheless, once a player has gained enough playing experience to be able to make a quick decision, these in-play markets can be very exciting choices indeed.
Betting markets
Another important element to check when deciding the best Honor of Kings betting site, is that the betting site in question provides the betting markets needed. The betting markets and types within should tick all the boxes required.
Play types featured at a standard Honor of Kings betting site
The Honor of Kings play types can be used according to the player's needs. There are a few different spin types highlighted below that can all serve different purposes.
Honor of Kings Match Winner
Honor of Kings players can enter the team to win. This is probably the most straightforward that can be placed. Additional excitement can be gained from in-play betting, too. If a cover play is felt necessary, the bettor could also enter in-play in addition to their current pre-game.
Honor of Kings Handicap betting
The handicap option relates to the match winner spin, based on a team having an advantage or disadvantage. For example, Team A may be the superior team, and be the shortest odds because of that factor. To make the odds fairer and more competitive, some betting operators will offer bigger odds for the superior team but give the superior team a disadvantage of X number of rounds deducted, which varies, depending on how good they are.
Honor of Kings - Maps betting
The Honor of Kings Map winner play is a more specific variety of the Match winner play above. Players can enter a team to be victorious in a specific map within the game. These are typically a shorter duration version of the Match winner player and works in a similar way.
Honor of Kings - Round winners
Players can enter a team to win the 1st, 2nd or 3rd round, as well as all rounds combined. For example, Team A to win by one round margin, or Team A to win by a two round margin.
Honor of Kings - Correct score
Players can predict the correct score of an Honor of Kings game. These will typically be larger odds, since they are harder to achieve. Group betting of the rounds is also offered although these will be lower odds.
Honor of Kings - Most kills spin
Another Honor of Kings play is the “Most kills”. This is based on the player who, as the name suggests, has the most kills. Most kills bets are generally bigger odds than match winner bets due to their heightened difficulty to achieve correctly.
Honor of Kings - First Blood play
If there is a team that is known for having a quick start to a game, then “First Blood” may be a good shout.
Honor of Kings betting research
Considering this game was predominantly used by esports players in the far east, this awesome game is still somewhat a bit niche for most general western esports players. However, the good news is Western players who are familiar with esports betting will not have to adapt too much. Generally, the same rules and tips that would apply to most other well-known Western esports games will apply here, too. Below are a few handy hints.
Follow the Players
This will probably be the hardest hurdle to overcome when trying to apply a little strategy; being smart and getting to learn the players. Usually, an esports bettor can follow their favorite players via social media. Since most of the hottest HoK players reside in China, they will also be found on Chinese social media platforms. This is not a problem if you have a good understanding of Chinese, or you are currently following these platforms.
Practice the game yourself
As mentioned earlier, knowledge is power when it comes to standing a good chance of making money through esports betting. If Honor of Kings betting site users have never played the game, then they will be putting themselves at an obvious disadvantage. This would become especially apparent for bettors who wish to get involved with in-play betting, too. In-play betting would require a bettor to understand the game at a higher level, compared to a bettor who could simply look at the previous form by studying the current top Hok players.
META power
META is short for ‘most effective tactics available’. Knowing the updated tactics would be key for esports bettors who take their betting seriously. Since the game is relatively new in Western countries, it may be worth checking the TencentGames Honor of Kings section of their website.
