HGG Week 6: Last Chance for Playoffs

With only six spots left for the taking in the next stage of the Hearthstone Global Games, the pressure is on. HGG Week 6 will only have 12 matches being played, and all of them will be streamed. We’ll find out who’s making the top 16, and who will have to try again next year.

Battle of the Best

The first match of the week is Norway versus Thailand. Casper “Hunterace” Notto is a strength of the Norwegian side. After a disappointing exit from the Europe Fall Playoffs over the weekend, Hunterace is going to be hungry to help Norway get into the next round.

Netherlands versus Poland features a battle of Hearthstone personalities versus a World Championship qualifier. Kacper “A83650” Kwiecinski represents a member of Poland and will be seen later at the World Championship. Thijs “Thijs” Molendijk, Louis “Mitsuhide” Bremers, Tyler “tylerootd” Hoang Nguyen, and Matthijs “Theo” Lieftink are all veterans and streamers well known by the global community.

Canada will be taking on Portugal in their elimination match in HGG Week 6. Canada contains many veterans of the Hearthstone scene, taking on the lesser known but strong talent of Portugal.

They saved probably the best match for last. As the only match playing out on Thursday, United States versus South Korea means that one of these Hearthstone giants will not be advancing to the next round. Each team is represented by some of the best talent in all of Hearthstone, so we expect this match to go to a fifth and final game, especially since it stands alone on the final day.

Less Meaningful Matches and Bye Week Confusion

All of the qualified teams will play again this week. The only real exciting match among those is Brazil versus Switzerland. Brazil has the chance at a perfect 6-0 group stage record. Outside of that match, all the other teams get some preparation for playing against other teams in the next rounds of the Global Games.

Once again, there is also a team with a bye this week. That team is New Zealand, which grants them a win but they won’t be too happy about it. Right now, New Zealand has an even round differential. If they were to win a match this week they would have had a better chance of winning tiebreakers.

They join Sweden as the only two teams to have a bye week in the group stages. This week Sweden is in a must win match against Hong Kong. Fortunately for Sweden, they already have positive round differential. Sweden only needs to beat Hong Kong to have a better shot at advancing to the next round.
