HGG Week 4: Back to the Grind

HGG Week 4

The Hearthstone Global Games have made their return after a short hiatus. It is crunch time for many teams, as a 4-2 record will be needed to advance to the next round of the tournament. Unfortunately, some teams already sit at 0-3 and their journeys have ended. For those still in the tournament, a lot can happen going into HGG Week 4.

Unfortunate Exits and Dire Situations

Six teams will not be returning from the break for HGG Week 4. The Philippines, Turkey, and Argentina failed to make any headway in the three matches they played.

Croatia came in two close sets versus Japan and arguably the best team right now in Ukraine, ending their run. Malaysia and Mexico took all of their matches to a final game but unfortunately, neither of them managed to come out on top.

18 teams currently sit at 1-2 and need to win the rest of their matches in order to advance to the next round. Most of these teams are in elimination matchups against other 1-2 teams. The United States sits at 1-2 and will have to defeat Austria. Canada, also 1-2, will have to defeat Belgium.

The Top Dogs

HGG Week 4
The lineup for team Ukraine.

Six teams remain undefeated going into HGG Week 4. Ukraine, who has some of the best players on paper with Aleksandr “Kolento” Malsh and Eugene “Neirea” Shumilin, has shown that they are so far the best ream in the tournament. Ukraine will take on the Czech Republic this week. Jaromír “Jarla” Vyskočil and Oldřich “Faeli” Mahdal have been strong at the helm for them.

The duo from Brazil, Lucas “Rase” Guerra and Lucas “LucasCrt” Claudio, have been making a lot of appearances in other global tournaments and help team Brazil get a 3-0 start. They will battle it out against the undefeated Spain this week. Esteban “AKAWonder” Serrano has helped Spain work its way to a 3-0 start.

HGG Week 4
The lineup for team Taiwan.

The current reigning world champion, Chen “tom60229” Wei Lin, has gotten Taiwan off to a nice 3-0 start. He, alongside a couple veterans from ahq e-Sports Club, are probably the best competition to go up against Ukraine should that be in the cards for the future. For HGG Week 4, they will take on China. The up and coming Gao “Leaoh” Yang and veteran Zheng “OmegaZero” Lin have been performers for team China.

Boomsday Meta Shift

The new set marks a reset point for all of the teams. They had some time off to prepare for using the new cards. Maybe with the new cards, teams that were struggling could find it easier to grab some wins. Alternatively, there is a chance that nothing much will change and the teams at the top will stay at the top. Either way, there’s still a long way to go in the HGG.

Week 4 action will begin on August 21 and can be seen on the PlayHearthstone Twitch channel. You can find the bracket with the current standings on battlefy.
