What Is Eridium Used For in Borderlands 4?

For those who played Borderlands 3, Eridium makes a return in Borderlands 4 as a special type of currency.  The only difference is that this time around, Crazy Earl isn’t here to take it off the gamer’s hands in exchange for outfits and storage upgrades. In Borderlands 4, Eridium is now a treasured endgame item that players will want to collect before completing the game. While simply progressing through the campaign, many players will have a stockpile of Eridium stored up, but what is Eridium used for in Borderlands 4?

Moxxi’s Big Encore

What Is Eridium Used For in Borderlands 4

A new addition to Borderlands 4 is Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine. It’s not foreign for Borderlands gamers to replay certain boss fights to grind for XP or farm for specific loot drops. This new machine allows players to easily restart boss battles at the cost of cash or Eridium. For players who haven’t finished the story, they can pay for an encore, which replays the selected boss battle as normal. However, for those who have finished the campaign, they can request a Big Encore for Eridium, which boosts the bosses’ drop rates. A much easier process of farming for loot compared to dropping in and out of sessions.

Specialization Reset

Upon completing the main story, players can not only respec their Vault Hunters’ skills for cash, but they can now respec their specializations. When resetting specializations, it costs 5,000 Eridium but can be done as many times as the player chooses. These respec stations can be found within these locations.

Firmware Transfer

Yet another new mechanic in Borderlands 4 is Firmware. This mechanic serves as a system where players can randomly roll different buffs for their equipment. If lucky enough, players can roll for a 3-piece set bonus providing stronger upgrades, something essential while in the endgame. At the cost of eridium, the set effect of one item can be transferred to another. This is called Firmware Transferring. So players can budget their eridium, here are all of the Firmware that can be obtained.
