Fans of the Castlevania games will be pleased to see the rumors that publisher Konami is planning to reveal details of a new game later this year, but is it true? Looking more closely at the story, we can see how likely this is to happen and whether it should be a success.
The last game released under the Castlevania name was Lords of Shadow 2, back in 2014. The gothic horror franchise is one of Konami’s most successful products. Indeed, some of the Castlevania games are ranked as some of the best video games ever made, so the demand for a new game should certainly see the success of any upcoming release.
How true are the rumors of a new game, though? They seem to be based on Konami planning a big presence at E3 2023, to be held this June. With Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony all set to miss the event, it’s a chance for Konami to be the main attraction if they announce the long-awaited Castlevania game there.
Given the relative lack of success of the 3D version of Lords of Shadow 2, it remains to be seen whether a new title may go back to the popular 2D format, or if they further develop the 3D style. With so few details revealed so far, it’s impossible to know what direction the developers might take this time.
Since the Castlevania series is set in Dracula’s castle, it’s worth considering whether vampire games are still in fashion. The Castlevania TV series on Netflix has helped to keep the genre in the spotlight, while a Dead Cells DLC game inspired by Castlevania is also on the cards for a March release. It could be argued that the success of The Last of Us has put more of a focus on zombies lately, but it’s clear that there’s still space in the market for good vampire stories.
In terms of new video games in the genre, RedFall and Vampire: The Masquerade and Bloodlines 2 are among the best vampire-based efforts due out in 2023. RedFall is particularly keenly-awaited, with the Bethesda game set to be released early in May. The open-world first-person shooter features four playable characters who possess unique qualities to help them survive on an island teeming with vampires.
We can also see that vampires are incredibly popular in casino games if we pop over to these guys and look at the latest casino offers. Sites such as LuckyDays and LeoVegas have big welcome bonuses and their games collections cover a wide range of themed slots including those featuring Dracula and other vampiric creatures. Among the latest releases, Blood Suckers Megaways and BloodThirst both carry a gothic vampire theme very effectively.
The fascination with vampire stories doesn’t look like it’s disappearing any time soon, and that’s good news for Konami if they have serious plans to release another Castlevania game this year. As E3 draws near, we should start hearing more rumors about the potential new game, providing there’s any truth to the story.
