Civilization 7 is finally here and there are numerous changes that everyone is getting used to. One of the big ones that has been added is Settlement Limits. That is right, you can only have a certain number of Settlements before issues start to arise. In this article we are going to take a look at Civ 7 Settlement Limits and if it is worth going over.
To combat players and the Ai from spreading themselves too thin, the Civ 7 Devs added Settlement Limits. This word Settlement is a relatively new one for the franchise. Instead of everything that is settled by your settler being a city, now they are a town to start. Unless you have a founder that settles your capital. With this, there is a limit of 3 that is set for most Leaders and Civs but for expansionist Leaders you automatically get one more Settlement. Once you go beyond the limit you will receive a penalty of -5 Happiness across each of your Settlements. This will multiply up to 7 times or -35 Happiness and will happen in all of your Cities and Towns.
There are many ways to increase your Settlement Limit in Civ 7. They are all going to be listed below. Leaders Attributes
Leaders or Civ-Specific Trees
Tech and Civic Trees
Mementos

But is it worth going over the Settlement Limit? Really that comes down to your playstyle. If you are able to get happiness going in a serious way then going way over is not a major problem. But early on, either in age or just in your game in general, it can be an issue. This will have your Cities and Towns potentially rebelling and causing you plenty of issues on the homefront. If you play certain Leaders or Civs they are better for expanding than others even in the expansionist categories. If you want to truly have a vast empire then you will want to pair things with Happiness as much as possible.
