Summer Game Fest 2023: All Announcements, Updates and Details

Summer Game Fest kicked off earlier today, hosted with a live audience for the first time by Geoff Keighley from YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. Following the cancellation of E3 2023 back in March – due to an overall lack of audience, developer and publisher interest – the road has been paved for Summer Game Fest to be one of the biggest events coming up for both studios and companies to announce their upcoming projects, updates and release dates.

Here is a list, in order of appearance, of every video game announcements and the necessary details:

Ubisoft kicked off with an announcement of a new game in the “Prince of Persia” franchise, “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,” set for a release date on January 18, 2024.

Next on the roster was “Mortal Kombat 1” gameplay, particularly showcasing the combat and, of course, the fatalities awaiting players upon the game’s release on September 19, 2023.

Gameplay footage of “Path of Exile 2” from Grinding Gear Games premiered, alongside a promise of more details to come on July 28.

Capcom revealed a collaboration between the recently released “Street Fighter 6” and the upcoming third-person shooter “Exoprimal,” which will be releasing on July 14.

Nicolas Cage – who even made an appearance on stage – will be added to the roster of “Dead by Daylight” as a playable character on July 25.

A world premier trailer for volume one of Netflix’s third season of “The Witcher” with a prelude announcement by the cast was revealed. The season premieres on June 29, only on Netflix.

The witch hunt begins with an early access launch of “Witchfire,” an Epic Games Store exclusive, on September 20, 2023.

With a trailer mixing reality with gameplay, the first-person shooter VR experience, “Crossfire: Sierra Squad” will launch on PlayStation VR2 sometime in August 2023.

“Remnant 2,” an upcoming third-person shooter and sequel to “Remnant: From the Ashes,” is set to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on July 25.

Sonic the Hedgehog is making a return in a brand new game that centers on blending a retro style with a modern twist. “Sonic Superstars” is slated to arrive in the fall.

New characters and the upcoming PlayStation 5 launch were announced for Hoyoverse’s new game, “Honkai: Star Rail,” that was released this past April.

“Lies of P,” an upcoming Soulslike-style game inspired by the tale of Pinocchio, received an all new trailer and a release date for September 19. A demo is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms.

A new Bandai Namco title inspired by the “Sand Land” manga franchise – by the creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama – was announced with a trailer and some first looks at gameplay.

“Throne and Liberty,” an upcoming fantasy MMORPG from South Korean developer and publisher NCSOFT, has opened a sign-up for an upcoming tech test for players to take part in.

Next was a quick look at Nexon’s “Warhaven,” releasing sometime in fall 2023. The game was also revealed to be appearing sometime in Steam Next Fest later this month from June 19 through 26.

There was a brief trailer for “Party Animals,” ending with a new release date for September 20.

Crash Bandicoot made an appearance with “Crash Team Rumble,” an online 4v4 game, will be releasing this month on June 20. The first season of “Crash Team Rumble” will follow shortly after.

“Alan Wake II,” previously announced at The Game Awards, will be arriving on October 17, 2023 – 13 years after the first installment. The game will be split in half between the story of two different protagonists: the titular Alan Wake and a new character Saga Anderson. The first gameplay of “Alan Wake II” also premiered.

Directly afterwards, there was a quick look at the co-op campaign for “WarHammer 40,000: Space Marine 2” which will be releasing this coming winter.

Then there was a look at an indie, pixelated, side-scroller fantasy game titled “Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall” which is available to be wish-listed now.

A zombie-filled, first-person shooter game from a mastermind of horror, “John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando,” will be arriving in 2024.

Next in the lineup was “Baldur’s Gate 3” with the reveal of a new antagonist, Gortash, voiced by Jason Isaacs. “Baldur’s Gate 3” will be releasing on August 31, 2023.

New artwork – including the box art – of Insomniac Games’ “Spider-Man 2,” exclusive for the PlayStation 5, was shown off along with an official release date of October 20, 2023.

“Palworld” – an open-world Pokémon-like game “with guns” – will be launching early access in January 2024.

The newest expansion to “Black Desert,” “Land of the Morning Light,” will be launching in just a few days on June 14.

A new adventure based in the beloved “The Lord of the Rings” universe, centered on the dwarves returning to the Misty Mountains, awaits in “The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria,” will be launching later this autumn.

A prelude of more to come, next was a look at “Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis” – a new mobile game coming to iOS and Android sometime in the near future. It is currently open for Pre-Registration with a closed beta test on Android beginning now and ending June 28.

Afterwards, a first look at a new action RPG, “Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden”, by Don’t Nod – the same team behind “Vampyr” and the first two installments in the “Life is Strange” franchise. “Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden” has a release date for sometime by the end of 2023.

The “Yakuza” franchise made an appearance with a brand new trailer and gameplay for “Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name,” releasing November 9.

An underwater exploration adventure is awaiting in “Under the Waves,” arriving August 29, 2023.

The new Warzone Season 4 expansion of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II” was shown with a look at the brand-new Vondel map.

Of course, for the sake of tone, it only makes sense to follow up a first-person shooter with an upcoming fantasy, farming simulator. Phoenix Lab’s “Fae Farm” had been previously announced to be exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, but it is now coming to PC on September 8 as well.

After winning “Best Mobile Game” at The Game Awards 2022, “Marvel Snap” returns to announce its “biggest update ever” with Conquest mode coming next week.

The fantasy games are quick to leave and even quicker to return with “King Arthur: Legends Rise” on both PC and mobile platforms with pre-registration open now.

After initially being announced at The Game Awards 2022, Airship Syndicate’s upcoming game “Wayfinder” makes another appearance with a new trailer. “Wayfinder” is free-to-play and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Next, we steered away from fantasy for a moment and started heading towards the stars with “Stellaris Nexus,” a game that prioritizes rapid, turn-based combat against five other players that can be completely finished “in about an hour.”

Then, with another game published by Paradox Arc, “Space Trash Scavenger” is about exactly what it sounds like – scavenging anything of potential use from abandoned, derelict spacecrafts.

“Star Trek: Infinite” made a brief, teaser appearance with an announcement of a full reveal planned for June 16 of this month.

Will Arnett made a video-appearance to show off a teaser trailer for the “Twisted Metal” adaptation that will release on July 27, 2023 via Peacock.

“Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior” is a hack and slash, roguelike game with a time-twist. The game will be launching sometime in 2023 and is already available to wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

From Ascendant Studios comes their first release: “Immortals of Aveum,” a first-person shooter centered around several varieties of magic. The game will be releasing on July 20 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows.

A new trailer for Chapter 4 Season 3 – titled “Wilds” – of the battle royale “Fortnite” dropped right before its releases June 9.

The big finale that was hinted at upon the very beginning of Summer Game Fest was none other than a World Premier trailer for the long-awaited “Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth” – the second installment of the planned trilogy of the “Final Fantasy VII Remake” project. The game was given a release timeframe for early 2024 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
