As of November 17, the review embargo on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been lifted. Safe to say, the critics have given their verdict on gen 9 and it is good. This piece will cover the general consensus of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet reviews.
While it’s rated fairly lower than past gens, as seen on sources like Forbes; Scarlet and Violet are still trending rather well. The game has scored 78 on Metacritic with a 6/10 from the Guardian and GamesRadar being the lowest described. Nintendo Life gave Scarlet and Violet a 7/10 while Gamespot and Metro gave the games 8/10 and 4/5, respectively. Critics all praised the game’s new open world, terastalizing mechanic, and soundtrack. They also praised the core gameplay, citing it as an always-welcome staple, and the new level scaling. That being said, this is fairly below Sword and Shield, especially before the first official day.
This is because critics have slammed the game’s technological issues and overall buggy nature (this is most likely due to the absence of the day 1 patch…nothing to critique there…). Critics have also called it slow and a bit more underwhelming than the creators originally imagined. Seeing as how these are just critic reviews, the player reviews might bring these numbers up if more positive than most of the critics. People have also been divided on the graphics, but still praised the new models.
Do not let these scores steer anyone away from purchasing Scarlet and Violet. For the most part, reviews are actively good, and more reviews from fans should offset any critic panning. Alongside that, people who get the game on the 17 still need the Day 1 patch for things to function properly. Once a week has passed, players can pay attention to these Pokemon Scarlet and Violet reviews more critically. Have fun in Paldea, trainers.
