The Pokemon Legends Z-A starters have been something that many players have been speculating about since the announcement. Now we know which of the former Pokemon Starters will be making their way to the newest Pokemon game. See which ones were picked and our thoughts on what this all means.
In a major surprise the three starters will be Chickorita, Totodile and Tepig.
For those who may not know, Chickorita and Totodile are from Gen 2 or Pokemon Gold and Silver. While Tepig will be joining from Gen 5 or Pokemon Black and White and Black and White 2.
They are all shown at different points during the trailer which reveals them in their habitats in Lumiose City.

It is worth repeating that this is a huge surprise. Many players thought based on what was in Pokemon Legends Arceus that they would draw from completely separate games. This proved to be wrong. Instead it seems as though they decided purely based on what The Pokemon Company wants.
Now Gen 2 starters could be considered the Legends starters. Mainly due to the fact that Cyndaquil was one of the starters in Legends Arceus. With Chickorita and Totodile joining the club it would seem as though they will not be in a new Legends game going forward. But at this point, who really knows?
As for Tepig, this was potentially the least surprising of the three. Many thought it was between Tepig, Litten and Scorbunny. We see that Tepig won out and that is huge for the evolutionary line as it is one that could use some help for sure.
What will be interesting to watch for next is if they just get their first Mega Evolutions or if they will also get new regional evolutions as well.
With Legends Arceus the three starters received completely new regional evolutions. With Mega Evolutions officially returning there seems to be a good chance that these starts will get one but this did not happen in X & Y so there is a chance that these three are left out as well.
Either way, they are the starters for Pokemon Legends Z-A and will likely be getting something new to their final Evolution.
