It’s a particularly sad day trainers. However, the following information will hopefully make Generations 6-7 more relevant than ever. Players have late 2023 and all of early 2024 before the online services for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems shut down.
On October 4, the Pokémon Company announced that in early April of 2024, online connectivity for Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, and Ultra Sun and Moon will become inoperational. Many players might not know, but online connectivity for the 3DS Pokémon games is still active.
Just because the eShop went offline does not mean that everything from the 3DS was neutered. Players have still been able to trade and battle. However, come this April, the company will be cutting off ALL online support from generations 6 and 7. Every player is encouraged to revisit these games and take advantage of all the connectivity they offer.
The player search system and festival plazas will also be deactivated.
As stated by Serebii, the company has also stated that Pokémon Bank will also become inoperable. This was what the news bulletin on Serebii said:
“However, it has been confirmed that Pokémon Bank will continue to run after this time so you will still be able to use that software and transfer Pokémon to Pokémon HOME. The Pokémon Company states there will be a time when Bank goes offline so they recommend transferring Pokémon to HOME sooner rather than later.”
While players still have time, they should send their treasured mons to HOME before they are lost to the aether forever. It’ll be hard saying goodbye to this piece of Pokémon history. However, it will stay with the community in their hearts.
So, in the end, this is the state of things. Pokémon 3DS online services will soon come to an end. In addition, online services for generations 6 and 7 of Pokémon will be axed out. Even today, people still talk about and play the older Pokémon games. The 3DS Pokémon titles, specifically, are still recent enough to not be considered irrelevant or retro.
Make some time and appreciate these gems before they disappear.
