The Paldea region will be the first in the main series Pokemon games to be a completely open-world experience. Pokemon Sword and Shield tried it a bit with ones of their areas and then Pokemon Legends Arceus really solidified that this was the route the Pokemon Company was going.

This region looks like it is going to be massive. From the many shots that have already been shown along with those from the latest Pokemon Presents, fans will have plenty to explore. There will be plenty of unique areas for fans to traverse on their ride Pokemon, the Legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon. They will be like motorcycles that can fly and swim. It is clear that the HM system is gone at this point.

Also what will be extremely unique to this region is the story. According to the latest presents, there will be three different stories. One having to do with the school that the character is enrolled in, one having to do with the gym leader challenge and another that is unknown at this point. Meaning, that there should be plenty of things to do in order to keep players busy.

Lastly, it was revealed that for the first time, Pokemon will not be on a set path. Players will be able to go anywhere and do the stories as they please. And yes, this includes the gym leaders. Players can take the gym leader challenge in whatever order they want.
