New Pokemon Grafaiai Teased for Scarlet and Violet

For the first time in this reveal cycle, Pokemon has started to actually tease some of their new Pokemon. Most of the time, the new Pokemon for Scarlet and Violet were being shown in full videos and trailers. Now it would seem as though fans will be getting their first look at a brand new Pokemon. Here are the teasers for the newest Scarlet and Violet Pokemon Grafaiai.

After a few teasers leading up to the official name reveal, many were wondering what was going on. Was it a brand new Pokemon? Or did it have something to do with the story of Scarlet and Violet? Well it seems as though those who were guessing new Pokemon were correct.

Below were the original Tweets with the teases.

As one can see, it looked like bullseyes or just different random circles around different objects.

Then this Tweet revealed the name.

As one can see there is a figure hidden in the shadows. Considering the name, Grafaiai there are a few hypotheses that can be made. Breaking down the name, as with most Pokemon, will help to determine what this Pokemon might be based on.

The Graf part is fairly obvious considering the teases. It has to do with graffiti. The Aiai part is possibly just part of the name. But, the more likely option is that it is based on the animal, the Aiai from Morocco. Check out the picture below and then compare it to the last picture in the teaser.

While not an exact copy, the ears look very similar and as stated before, the name would fit. This would be interesting as it would mean that the new Pokemon may look a lot like the Aiai but also could be similar to Smeargle in the sense that it paints or more accurately does graffiti.
