With the launch of Overwatch 2 veterans and players new to the series are experiencing the reworks of different characters. A week after its launch a tier list was made to find out who is Overwatch 2’s best hero to play as in Season 1.
It’s important to understand regardless of where heroes are placed in the tier list, any character can be utilized in Overwatch 2. This means you can play a character ranked first and still lose or play a character ranked last and still win.
Role Descriptions
Tanks- The damage soakers of the teams are the tanks. Mitigating the most damaged, tanks create windows of opportunity for their teammates to gain the upper hand on their enemies. Tanks will be leading the charge
Assault (DPS) – Known by the community as DPS they are going to be focused on dealing heavy damage to enemies. Damage dealers require support from their teammates if they expect to come out of the battle with a victory.
Support – Whether it’s healing teammates or disrupting enemy attackers, healers will be the backbone of any team. This role is built for those who would rather keep minimal distance from combat and aid their team.
Best Characters (S-Tier)
D.Va, Sombra, Genji, and Lúcio are currently the meta within the launch of Overwatch 2 Season 1. These characters have the kits to change the tide of any battle making them Overwatch 2’s best heroes.
D.Va
A fan favorite from the first Overwatch, D.Va comes into Overwatch 2 almost the same with little to no changes. D.Va has if not one of the best the most effective ultimates in the game. Her blast radius from her mech explosion easily disrupts enemies and can send them falling back. Whether in or out of her mech her mobility is also something that shouldn’t be underestimated. D.Va’s Defense Matrix also can block a variety of different abilities. D.Va is not only the best tank but also the best tank in Overwatch 2.
Sombra
Sombra falls in line with one of the more technical characters to play in Overwatch 2. However, once players get the hang of her she can easily become an absolute menace in battle. In Overwatch 2 Sombra will rely more on her damage than her hacking abilities. With her rework Sombra’s hacking ability now attaches a massive damage amplifier to enemies. Once invisible she can easily hack enemies and go on the offensive taking everyone by surprise.
Genji
Like Sombra, Genji is another technical hero to get used to. With his excellent mobility, Genji can easily maneuver around the map and catch enemies by surprise. Genji is a hero that can dish out quick and easy damage but will take practice to make this possible. Once mastered he turns into an absolute nightmare to go against. It’s no surprise he’s a favorite in the competitive leagues.
Lucio
Must-have support for the team, Lucio will keep the party moving with his constant heals and speed buffs. Lucio’s high mobility lets him chase down allies who need healing. He does decent damage and healing but he’s relied on keeping points contested. With abilities such as wall-run, and crossfade he can easily distract the enemy team.
While these are Overwatch 2’s best heroes there are others that can still get the job done. Here are the other heroes ranked amongst the tier list.
A-tier –
Ana, Orisa, Moira, Sigma, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Sojourn, Soldier 76, Reaper, Mercy, Zenyatta

C-tier –
