Arlington, Texas—— The Optic Texas Gaming Organization collaborated with their hometown baseball team, The Texas Rangers, in “Optic Gaming Night”. The first collaboration of this kind between Esports and pro teams happened Tuesday night.
Optic Gaming is known as one of the most popular, as well as most influential teams and organizations in Esports. From revolutionizing sponsorship deals for esports to leading the scene in content creation, they are quite simply, trailblazers. This is just another example of that.
The Texas Rangers v. Los Angeles Angels professional baseball game on Tuesday night played host to “Optic Gaming Night”. The night was filled with fun as the Rangers organization gave out custom GreenWall mash-up jerseys. But, more importantly, a historical event for Esports took place when Optic’s two most recognizable faces, player Seth “Scump” Abner and Owner Hector “Hecz” Rodriguez, threw out a joint first pitch.
The pitch was followed by a simultaneous cartwheel from both Scump and Hecz.
This is just the beginning of an ever-changing and developing relationship between Esports and Pro Sports in the United States.
Throughout recent years Esports has seen a major increase in live-streaming and its audience, especially in Call of Duty. Professional athletes have been no stranger to this new fab as there are many individuals who are growing a second, esports and content-related fanbase. Devin Booker, Kyler Murray and Dalton Schultz are some of those athletes, to just name a few.
In what may seem like a rather unlikely connection, Professional sports and Esports leagues will only continue to bolster each others’ fan bases.
