The Backyard Sports crew is back in full force. A new animated special was released on January 29, 2026 and while it was a treat fans had been waiting for, something else was revealed at the end. After nearly 30 years, a New Backyard Baseball Game will be released in the summer of 2026.
This is the news that avid fans have been waiting for: a New Backyard Baseball Game.
The team over at Playground Productions has been hinting at this since they bought the franchise. The revival of the old games and their addition to Steam and Mobile has been a huge success. Fans no longer had to find old copies to relive some of their favorite childhood memories.
Instead, we will be getting an all-new game. But what will that look like?
Not much has been shown so far about the newest Backyard game, but there are a few things we should expect.
While it is updated, it looks like they are keeping the older 2D artstyle that the older games are famous for. They have been pushing this since the restart of the franchise. The 3D games did not do as well and it was likely because that style of game lost what made each character feel unique and full of life.
Along with this, it is safe to assume that most, if not all, of the players that were shown in “The Animated Special” will be in the game. The mention of Eckman Acres and the use of Steele Stadium should mean that they are safely in the game, too.
With everything else that is expected in today’s games, Backyard Baseball has the opportunity to re-establish itself as one of the premier sports games for both old players and new ones.
