Questionable Madden 19 ratings: Tennessee Titans

Publish Date: July 22, 2018

The Game Haus will be analyzing the Madden 19 ratings of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. This article will examine the Tennessee Titans Madden 19 ratings.

While Casey has only recently started to garner acclaim as one of the NFL’s best, he’s one of the most versatile defensive linemen. During his tenure, Casey has played both tackle positions in a 4-3 scheme. Now he excels as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme. From a pure football perspective, that kind of versatility is only possible if a player possesses an elite level of skill and understanding of the game.

Couple his versatility, with his production and three-consecutive Pro Bowls, his overall rating of 89 is entirely too low. That rating makes him the 12th best defensive end in the game. He’s behind players who are less established like Demarcus Lawrence, a 91 overall, and Brandon Graham, a 93 overall. While both of those players are talented, Casey does not benefit from playing with a player like Fletcher Cox, or playing in a scheme where his number one priority is rushing the passer and accumulating sacks.

Dion Lewis

While Dion Lewis has had a productive career with the New England Patriots, his overall rating of 87 is entirely too high, especially in comparison to Derrick Henry’s 86 overall rating. One could argue that Lewis is a better all-around player than Henry, but he is not and has never been, a better prospect. Derrick Henry is bigger, stronger and faster than Lewis. Yes, he is faster according to their 40 yard-dash times, Henry is faster. We also have to take into account the drop off that accompanies players when they leave the New England system. The Titans have a potentially lethal combination with these two players, but the 87 overall rating is too generous for a player who’s benefited from one of the best offensive systems in the history of sports.

Marcus Mariota

This rating is horrendous. Marcus Mariota’s overall rating of 79 puts him behind players like Case Keenum, Baker Mayfield and Blake Bortles. Mariota is being penalized for playing through injuries and playing in an antiquated offense under Mike Mularkey and his inability to cater to the strengths of his quarterback. Now with Matt LaFleur from Los Angeles, Mariota will certainly benefit from a forward-thinking play caller. Expect his rating to dramatically increase once the season is underway.

Adjusted Ratings

Jurrell Casey – 92 Overall

Dion Lewis – 84 Overall

Marcus Mariota – 81 Overall
