Questionable Madden 19 Ratings: New Orleans Saints

The Game Haus will be analyzing the Madden 19 ratings of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. This article will examine New Orleans Saints Madden 19 ratings.

Drew Brees

I’m not going to pull any punches here. Drew Brees being rated a 91 overall is an egregious mistake. For those who would claim his age as a reason, Drew Brees is younger and a better athlete than Tom Brady. However, that didn’t stop EA from assigning the 40 year old quarterback a 99 overall rating. Brees is the most accurate and prolific passer in NFL history and he’s being unfairly rated because he wasn’t asked to carry the load offensively last season.

Brees is slated at the fourth best quarterback behind Brady, Rodgers and Wilson. Whether or not you think Brees is better than those players, it’s undeniable that his rating is too low. At worst, Brees should have an overall rating of 94. Don’t even get me started on his Medium Accuracy rating of 89 and Deep Accuracy of 81. This is one of the worst errors EA has made in the last few years of the Madden franchise.

Cameron Meredith

I’m starting to notice a trend among these ratings. EA Sports is giving young, unproven, high-upside receivers the benefit of the doubt, and Cameron Meredith is no different. He received an overall rating of 83. Meredith has never played a full 16 game season, including missing all of last year. In fairness, he was productive during his 2016 season in Chicago. Through 14 games, he accumulated 66 catches for 888 yards and four touchdowns.

The problem with his rating is that he’s being ranked higher than other, more proven commodities at the position. For example, Meredith has a higher overall rating than Devin Funchess, Josh Gordon, Rishard Matthews and Mohamed Sanu Jr. Any objective NFL fan knows that shouldn’t be the case. If you want to say he has the potential to be better, fine, but he shouldn’t project that highly when he is, at best, the third best receiving option behind Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara.

Marcus Williams

While rookie corner Marshon Lattimore occupied most of the spotlight, Marcus Williams was a great surprise for the Saints last season. I guess the employees at EA Sports were skeptical, as his 84 overall rating places him outside of the top 20 safeties. On the other hand, Pro Football Focus had Williams tied with a few other players as the 12th best safety. While I’m not big on overreacting to rookie performances, Williams deserves more love considering players like John Johnson III (no that’s not a computer generated name in franchise mode) are rated higher than him.

Adjusted Ratings

Drew Brees – 94 Overall

Cameron Meredith – 80 Overall

Marcus Williams – 86 Overall
