Questionable Madden 19 ratings: Kansas City Chiefs

Publish Date: July 26, 2018

The Game Haus will be analyzing the Madden 19 ratings of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. This article will examine the Kansas City Chiefs Madden 19 ratings.

As we’ve been writing this series, I’ve noticed several questionable ratings, and this is one of the worst yet. Kendall Fuller was among the best corners in the league last year for Washington. While he didn’t have a stellar rookie campaign, he rebounded in a big way in 2017. Fuller was able to put his health struggles behind him and stepped into a starting role. He was considered by many to be a first-round talent until a previous injury forced him to drop to the third round.

Once Fuller was healthy and starting, he excelled. It’s fair to expect some drop off since he’ll be playing in a new defensive scheme, but to rate Fuller as an 82 overall is insulting. Players like Joe Haden, who have been coasting on their name, are rated as much as three points higher. Apparently Fuller wouldn’t even be the third best corner on the Chargers’ roster, as he’s ranked beneath their third corner, Trevor Williams. It’s okay if EA Sports doesn’t want to react too much to last year’s success, but his initial overall rating is not accurate at all.

Chris Jones

While this is a small oversight, it’s one that should not go unmentioned. From his first snap in Kansas City, Chris Jones is one of the NFL’s best 3-4 defensive ends. It’s hard to justify this sleight statistically because 3-4 defensive ends, outside of J.J. Watt, don’t accumulate huge sack totals. Big sack numbers are traditionally had by 4-3 defensive ends or 3-4 outside linebackers. Jones is well above average stopping the run and rushing the passer. Despite his jump from two sacks to 6.5 last season, he’s tied for the 22nd best defensive end. It’s suspect to see players like Myles Garrett, who only played in 11 games, and Michael Bennett, who was traded for a fifth-round pick and a marginal receiver rated higher.

Eric Berry

The Chiefs Madden 19 ratings are mostly underrated. Sadly, that does not apply to Eric Berry. He’s had two serious injuries that have caused him to miss time and a devastating bout with leukemia. His most recent injury, the Achilles tear, is the most damning. It’s hard to imagine that even with his unyielding will, that Berry will return to be just as good. I’m not saying he’s washed up, but it’s not realistic to project that Berry will open the season as the second-best safety in the NFL.

Adjusted Ratings

Kendall Fuller – 85 Overall

Chris Jones – 90 Overall

Eric Berry – 93 Overall
