Questionable Madden 19 Ratings: Chicago Bears

Publish Date: July 23, 2018

The Game Haus will be analyzing the Madden 19 ratings of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. This article will examine the Chicago Bears Madden 19 ratings.

Allen Robinson

To their credit, the Bears are doing everything they can to surround Mitchell Trubisky with offensive talent. One of their prized offseason acquisitions was Allen Robinson. While Robinson has plenty of potential at 24 years old, his overall rating of 87 is entirely too high.

In 2015, Robinson had a Pro Bowl year for the Jaguars, as he accumulated 80 catches for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. If he was coming off this season, then one could make the case that his rating is too low. However, he followed that year with a disappointing 2016. On the same number of targets (151), Robinson caught 73 passes for 883 yards and six touchdowns. He missed the entire 2017 season due to injury.

Apart from his declining play and previous injury, he shares the same overall rating with multiple wide receivers who are superior to him. For example, Brandin Cooks, Tyreek Hill, and Jarvis Landry all share the same rating as Robinson. When you take those players into consideration, Robinson does not belong in the same tier, but could be if he has a productive bounce-back season. But until then, his initial rating of 87 is excessively generous.

Akiem Hicks is one of the NFL’s most underrated defensive players. While he started slow, Hicks has developed into a quality defensive end. His overall rating of 86 isn’t bad, but it illustrates that he’s still being overlooked.

His overall rating places him in a four-way tie for the league’s 23rd best defensive end. He was ranked by Pro Football Focus as a top 20 player at his position in 2016, and a top 15 player this past season. He’s sadly never had a double digit sack season, but has had his two best years in Chicago. As the Bears improve, Hicks’ rating will as well, or at least it should.

Adrian Amos

Like Akiem Hicks, Amos’ overall rating of 90 is not a large miscarriage of justice. He’s among the top ten safeties, free or strong, in Madden 19. However, that rating isn’t accurate. He was, at worst, the fourth best safety last season, and depending on where you get your rankings, Amos was as high as number two.

Since Amos has only had one elite season, it’s okay to keep other players ahead of him. However, there are players who are being rated higher based on their name like Tyran Mathieu and Kam Chancellor. Hopefully, he’ll shoot up the safety rankings as the season progresses.

Adjusted Rankings

Allen Robinson – 84 Overall

Akiem Hicks – 89 Overall

Adrian Amos – 93 Overall
