The Game Haus will be analyzing the player ratings from Madden 22 of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with some of the initial rankings of players. Here are the Madden 22 questionable ratings from the Denver Broncos.
Last year, Sutton was on this list as underrated with a rating of 84. Between last year and this year nothing really changed for Sutton on the field. Due to his torn ACL in a week two matchup with the Steelers, Sutton sat on the sideline and rehabbed for most of the year. It would be tough to argue that Sutton got any better by tearing his ACL, but two overalls worse while already being underrated is ridiculous. Sutton is 26 and was improving fast before his injury. Those two factors combined would lead you to believe that an injury like this wouldn’t hurt his overall.

On the list of wide receivers the player that’s directly above Sutton is T.Y. Hilton. Hilton had a stretch of his career where he was just like Sutton, underrated. But now the script is flipped. Hilton despite his stats declining still sits at an 83. Sutton has been good enough and Hilton has been mediocre enough that both should’ve eclipsed resulting in a higher overall for Sutton. Sutton will need to prove that he’s more than just an 82 overall this season as he enters a contract year with the team.

Jones has the potential to be a star in this league so keep his name in mind this season. Last year, Jones finished with 6.5 sacks, a pretty solid number for a second year player. But Jones is more than just stats. In the Broncos week one matchup against the Titans, Jones recorded one of his first tackles of the year. This came when he met Derrick Henry at the line and stuffed him immediately. If a player can tackle Derrick Henry with force like that they shouldn’t have a 78 strength rating. All season long we saw Jones get to screens using top end acceleration which is fairly rated at 85. But the speed that he has to finish off those plays is missing in-game as his speed rating sits at 73.

The biggest issue with Jones’ ratings are his power moves and block shedding. The one conclusion that I got from watching Jones is that he moves linemen. Whether that’s shedding on run plays or bull rushing on pass plays he can do both. A great example of this came in week 16 against the Chargers. On a third and five Jones lined up on the inside and with sheer power bull rushed the offensive guard giving Justin Herbert no time to throw. Jones got the sack on that play. Dre’mont Jones is the future of the Broncos D-line and should be rated as such.

Adjusted rating: 79 (+4)
Cameron Jordan, Joey Bosa, Chase Young, Chris Jones, do you know what those players have in common? They finished the season with less than eight sacks. Do you know who didn’t finish with less than eight? Malik Reed. Reed not being in the high 70s to low 80s is a complete shock. Sure, Reed isn’t the biggest name, but his play should factor into his overall more than it has. Reed finished his 2020 campaign 11th in solo tackles and 18th in sacks. Yet he’s 23rd amongst left outside linebackers and 87th in terms of all linebackers.

Madden 22 rating: 74
Adjusted rating: 78 (+4)
Madden usually has its fair share of misses, and if you look at rosters outside of the Broncos nothing has changed. But looking at the Broncos roster overalls this year was actually surprising. Madden was more or less accurate with most players on the Broncos as it stands right now. Of course, when looking at other rosters it’s easy to tell that the Madden ratings staff getting the Broncos overalls mostly right is a fluke. But it’s nice to finally have a team that more or less resembles exactly what the Broncos are.
