The Game Haus will be analyzing the player ratings from Madden 21 of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with some of the initial rankings of players. Here are the Madden 21 questionable ratings: New York Giants.
Saquon Barkley (image via nj.com)
When initially revealed, the most shocking rating in all of Madden 21 was the 89 overall handed to Saquon Barkley. Fans were outraged, and Madden responded by bumping his rating up two points to 91. However, a 91 rating is still too low for the most talented halfback in the NFL. Barkley’s 2019 season was defined by injuries, as he injured his ankle in week 3 and was clearly not 100 percent even when he returned to the field last season. While unable to repeat his 2,000 all-purpose yard season from his rookie year, it is still clear very few players in the NFL have the skill-set and athletic ability of Saquon, and even less at the halfback position. He is the perfect blend of elusiveness and power, weighing more than Adrian Peterson while running a faster 40 yard dash than Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey. Saquon Barkley is the perfect prototype of a halfback, and has proven to be a top three player at the position despite being injured in 2019.
Adjusted Rating- 95
Evan Engram (image via 247sports.com
There are very few tight ends who are as talented as a receiver than Evan Engram. He is an extremely unique athlete, as the 6-foot-4, 240-pound player has outstanding speed and quickness for his position, making him a matchup nightmare for linebackers. However, his inconsistencies both on the field and with injuries warrants a reduction in overall rating. Engram is yet to eclipse 60 yards per game in a season and has missed 13 games the past two years. He is not a very capable run blocker either, which is a vital component in any tight end’s job in the NFL. Evan Engram is booming with potential, but he is yet to assert himself as a dominant player in the NFL.
Adjusted Rating- 84
Blake Martinez (image via packersnews.com
One of the leaders on the Green Bay Packers’ defense for the past half-decade, Blake Martinez is one of the better middle linebackers in the NFL despite his 72 overall rating. Martinez is a tackling machine, as he has been top two in the NFL in total tackles in three of his four seasons. Most recently, he was the man in the middle for the 13-3 Green Bay Packers, as he and their top ten defense made it to the NFC championship game. His football IQ is on par with the league’s best defenders, and seems to be a perfect fit as a leader on the young New York defense. While not outstandingly athletic or a large household name, Blake Martinez deserves much higher than a 72 overall.
Adjusted Rating- 80
