EA Sports’ Madden franchise has the daunting task of ranking all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. So, The Game Haus will be analyzing the most questionable ratings for players on every NFL team.
Here are the most questionable Madden 21 ratings for the Baltimore Ravens.
Brandon Williams – 86
A former nose tackle, shifted to defensive end and back throughout his career, Brandon Williams is certainly one of the stronger players in the league. Last season was his third as a defensive end, and his seventh overall in the NFL.
However, Williams collected only one sack last year, zero fumbles and only 34 combined tackles. In fact, he has failed to ever collect more than two sacks or one forced fumble in a season. In 14 games last season, his tackles for loss totaled only two and his only real impressive stat was his five quarterback hits, although only one was a sack, as stated earlier.
The value of players like Williams usually do not show up on the stat sheet, and his 2019 season is proof of that. But, an 86 seems astronomically high for a player that may never make a difference within the video game itself. His stats alone do not warrant such a high placement, even for a multi-positional player like him.
Adjusted Rating – 79
Mark Ingram – 86
Ingram had his third-highest total in yards both on the ground and through the air in 2019. He also had the best touchdown total (rushing plus receiving) of his entire career in his first year in Baltimore. 2019 marked his third Pro Bowl selection, as well.
It can absolutely be argued that Ingram’s resurgence was entirely reliant on a system built on a power running game. After the Ravens made the switch to Lamar Jackson, the offense was reworked completely to be run-first behind a bruising offensive line. Mark Ingram benefited directly from that switch, which led to inflated numbers.
Even still, a 1,000-yard rushing season with double-digit touchdowns is nothing to sneeze at, especially for a 30-year-old back. He still had to produce and commit to running downhill at a veteran’s age, which is deserving of a higher rating.
Adjusted Rating – 90
Matthew Judon – 83
Matthew Judon had his first full season as a starter in 2019, and it paid dividends for the Ravens. In 16 games and 16 starts, he sacked the quarterback 9.5 times, forced four fumbles and had 54 combined tackles.
Even before he was a full time starter, Judon was a perennially healthy linebacker who had a nose for getting to the quarterback. Although, last year saw his highest sack total which was rewarded with a Pro Bowl selection in a crowded linebacker category.
It is safe to assume he will continue to get starter’s minutes in 2020. With another year under his belt to perfect his craft, and supported by a fantastic defense, his numbers will rise and he will continue to stand out. Judon did not get the benefit of any doubt with this rating. Madden seems to think he will get lost in the shuffle of a unit that got even better over the offseason. That will not be the case.
