The Borderlands franchise excels at creating a loot and shoot gameplay loop. With a long history of success, the franchise continues to create highly addictive games to this day. With the release of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, the franchise steps into the world of Fantasy. Centering around a Dungeons and Dragons Fantasy land, the game provides a great experience. But one can’t help but wonder, Is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Worth it?
At the typical $59.99 plus tax (USD), Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is incredibly expensive. To analyze whether the game is worth it or not, here is are some factors to consider.

Gameplay
To start off, the game is fantastic. The fast paced combat feels buttery smooth. Run and gun could be the preferred method of play. But the integration of spells alongside melee weapons allows for much more freedom in gameplay. What this creates is a Borderlands game where melee attacks don’t feel as useless as they used to, alongside spell variations that make each class feel incredibly unique. Weaving in spells while shooting enemies down, then quickly switching to melee attacks grants amazing mechanical variation.
Speaking of unique, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands provides customization to a degree that has never been seen before in a Borderlands game. The typical customization in the skill tree still exists, where each class has different play styles. But this time around, instead of branching out to another tree, players gain access to another class. There are “optimal” methods of play, but at the end of the day, choosing the more fun options is never a bad call.
Through mixing and matching classes, finally having character customization, and even various spell selections, the gameplay mixes various elements of the typical RPG.
RPG
Unlike previous Borderlands entries, the role play factor in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is pretty big. Though there aren’t necessarily story variants, in essence it’s quite linear, the customization alongside gameplay root themselves in the common practices of RPG.
During certain stages of the game, Tiny Tina forces players to go through condensed map, in the form of a board. On here, players have random encounters in the tall grass that lead to closed off battles. Here, the map closes off, forcing players to go through waves of enemies to clear the encounter. This is a mixed bag. For those who like the aesthetic and change of pace, these encounters charm the player. The game pays homage to RPGs. But for those who dislike being closed off, and only yearn for the open adventure of the typical Borderlands trademark, these encounters may put them off.
Multiplayer
Every Borderlands game is more fun with a friend. The cooperative loot and shoot allows for amazing fun, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is no different. As the link above shows, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands supports cross platform play. This element is brand new, but not without its issues at the current moment. During initial launch, disconnects seem to be quite common.
For players looking to Split-Screen, the console version handle the function excellently. But for PC, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands does not support this function. Every PC port of the Borderlands franchise steers away from split screen cooperative play, which honestly sucks.
In Conclusion
At a steep price, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is definitely a good game. But is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands worth it? For fans of the Borderlands series or those very invested into DnD, the game will likely impress. Something to keep in mind is that Borderlands games always drop in price after the first couple of years. Whether it’s through sales or just a decrease in value, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will follow the same trend. As of now, Borderlands 3 is a much cheaper alternative, with equally fun gunplay. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is just the newer version.
So, if players are okay patiently waiting a year or two for a price drop, they might want to opt to do so. Not to say that it’s not worth the money. tiny Tina’s Wonderlands stands as an amazing experience. It’s more of providing insight as to the franchise as a whole. For example, Pokemon games almost never go on sale or drop in price. But Borderlands games definitely do.
