Road to Glory is a mode that has always been a part of the CFB franchise but has some unrealized potential that I would love to see actualized in College Football 26. So, today, we are going to take a look at how the mode could be improved, including new features and quality-of-life changes that can put this mode back in the spotlight for the franchise.
If nothing else, Road to Glory needs high school in College Football 26 for immersion, helping players feel a sense of connection and building blocks for their created characters. We need lore that we can connect with if we are going to play as one player for four years, and high school is a great way to establish this.
We don’t need anything too overboard here, potentially even having players slot in for one game with their created character in a generic high school somewhere. A state championship game with lots on the line, that can give you some boosts heading into your commitment window. I think this could go a long way, and give the mode some extra life and flavor, which will be a constant theme of these critiques and hopes for the mode.

With games like the NBA 2K franchise, players can run around in a social space and see other players doing the same, sporting their gear, tattoos, and all of the other wacky elements that franchise has come to offer players. I am not necessarily asking for that here, but I do think a campus social space, potentially for you and players who have also committed to that program, would be an amazing touch and transform what this mode looks and feels like.
Time for class? You could actually walk, or bike, your player to class, or even choose to skip if you chose to. Even if there were no other players in the space and it was purely NPC students, giving players a small window into the college life side of being a student-athlete would still be something that would make me want to play the mode much more. Also, it could give a whole new reason to have your player interact with NIL offerings, something that I think should be more represented in other modes as well.
Again, I’m not saying I want CFB 26 to look like 2K, but giving players a dorm, an outdoor quad, a student union, or anything else would be a nice addition to CFB 26 RTG.
Many may hate and often click through cutscenes in games like this, where you get called into the coach’s office or talk to reporters after a game, but I think completely leaving them out is a mistake when it comes to immersion. We need to feel like we are living the life of this player, not just making text-based choices and getting some on-screen outcome. Go to a party and skip class? Show us at the party (could you imagine?) and showing up hungover for class. This is college, let this mode feel like it.
I think this can easily go too far, so I think keeping the cutscenes down to entertaining or special moments would be key. If they can get this right and add in a few of these adjustments, it really could go a long way for this mode.
