How do you acquire and train Pokémon in Pokémon Champions?

Publish Date: July 22, 2025

One of the biggest questions surrounding Pokémon Champions concerns how players acquire new Pokémon and then how they subsequently EV and IV train them. Thanks to the July 22 Pokémon Presents, we can now answer those questions a bit more clearly as we anticipate the game’s upcoming release.

How to get new Pokémon in Pokémon Champions

Players will be able to purchase Pokémon in Pokémon Champions using an in-game currency called VP. There will be an option to either rent a Pokémon for seven days for free or purchase it outright for a fee of 1,000 VP.

From the looks of it, this will be the primary way players get new Pokémon, outside of linking their game with Pokémon Home.

How to EV and IV train in Pokémon Champions

Players will be able to spend the same currency to train their Pokémon. Changing their Nature, moves, stats, and otherwise will all cost VP, however, it looks like trainers will have full control of how to build their Pokémon right away.

Based on the image above, EVs and IVs may be simplified into “Stat Points” that would simplify the training process a bit. But, there could be more to the build process that we just haven’t seen yet.
