Horses You Must Consider Betting on The 2022 Breeders Cup Turf

Publish Date: October 18, 2022

It’s the end of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series. The final North American Grade 1 awards for October have now been decided. The time left till the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland on November 4-5 is approaching very quickly.

And as the final race approaches, bettors are starting to analyze each contender to know who amongst the qualified horses will win the Breeders Cup Turf this year. So if you want to know who are the ones who have the most potential, here is a list of the top five turf contenders that you should watch out for and consider on betting.

5: Gold Phoenix

An Irish-bred Belardo gelding named Gold Phoenix had his winning debut at an all-weather racecourse in Ireland last February 2021 before being shipped to the United States along with trainer Phil D’Amato.

In January this year, Gold Phoenix lost his debut when he came in second by a half-length in a March competition on the downhill turf at Santa Anita Park. However, after that unfortunate event, Gold Phoenix rises from the ashes like the phoenix that he is. He won his first race in the country last April in a one-mile allowance-optional claiming race.

Even though Gold Phoenix only finishes third in the 2022 John Henry Turf Championship (G2), his record shows a pretty incredible racing experience. He hasn’t finished a race in a position lower than third place in his last eight races.

Many horse racing enthusiasts and bettors have high hopes for Gold Phoenix and even named him one of the most promising horses among the latest turf contenders. So, it would be best if you also considered him putting him on your list.

4: Master Piece

Master Piece, a South American-born horse, made his debut in Chile and won four of his initial ten races, which included a Group 2 contest in his country of origin. He was inaugurated in the U.S. in October 2020, where he competed and finished fourth in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classis Stakes (G1) held at Belmont Park.

Master Piece was born of the Proud Citizen mare Torre Laguna and Mastercraftsman and is trained by Michael McCarthy. Master Piece came back to Keeneland in April 2021 after a lengthy break and claimed first place in an allowance race.

In his four consecutive appearances that year, he failed to win again, although, in August, he placed second in the Del Mar Handicap Race (G2) Presented by The Japan Racing Association.

3: Gufo

It would not be surprising if Gufo made it on the horse racing experts, enthusiasts, and bettors list. He has a long list of races that he contended, contributing to his skill and power at present.

Gufo finished his past races mostly on numbers one and two. Very seldom does he finish a lower position race, including his last race this year, the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic. Given his long list of race experiences, Gufo might already run every turf racetrack in the country in various weather, which gives him an edge over his competitors.

Five-year-old horse Gufo competed in races from 2019 to 2022. He was born of the Petionville mare Floy and Declaration of War. Gufo w as propagated in Kentucky, United States, by John Little & Stephen Cainelli, competed for Otter Bend Stables, LLC, and was conditioned by Christophe Clement.

2: Mishriff

With a total profit of over $15 million, Mishriff is among the all-time richest thoroughbreds on the planet when Mishriff won the $20 million Saudi Cup, where he ran on a dirt track at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh on February 20.

He then went on to win the Longines Dubai Sheema Classic on the turf at Meydan Racecourse held in Dubai on March 27. They both contributed significantly to his bank account. He was sired by Make Believe out of the Raven’s Pass mare Contradict. John and Thady Gosden trained Mishriff.

Like Gufo, Mishriff also has a long list of races where he competed, making a veteran thoroughbred that is used to competing. If you go through his racing records, you will notice that Mishriff is a great player who mostly finishes within the top three positions. The lowest position he got is 10th place which happened in the first week of October, where he finished 10th.

1: Rebels’ Romance

Finally, Rebels’ Romance is the top horse with a high probability of winning this year’s Breeders Cup Turf race. In 2020, Rebel’s Romance won on the synthetic race course at Kempton Park in England, where he started his career.

This thoroughbred has quite an excellent winning rate throughout his racing career which concluded the percentage of probability that he will win. He has shown an impressive performance in his last four races, where he finishes number one.

Aside from his latest four races, he already made a name in the industry by winning a majority of his races. So, there’s no question why many people are considering betting on Rebels’ Romance this coming 2022 Breeders’ Cup Turf race.
