A new competitor to Roblox has officially entered the scene in Hytale. This new game just launched on early access and has plenty of buzz surrounding it. The Hytale Release Date is not yet known but the Early Access Release Date has been confirmed.
Early Access started on January 13, 2026 meaning that you can buy Hytale now and get started.
From the sounds of things, the official Hytale Release Date will not be for some time. The game has only just started in early access. But for the most part, the game is in a playable state and depedning on how quickly they move through early access you could see a release date relatively soon.
Hytale multiplayer currently works in two main ways:
Invite friends into your world using a Share Code (fastest)
Run a dedicated server (persistent world, more control)
Use whichever method matches what you need.
This is the easiest way to “host a server” with friends.
Load into your world.
Press ESC to open the menu.
Click Online Play.
Turn “Allow Other Players to Join” ON.
Optional: set a password (and include it in the share code if that option exists).
Click Save.
Copy the Share Code that appears.
Important: Don’t post Share Codes publicly. They can include connection info.
From the main menu, go to Servers.
Choose Join via Code (or similar).
Paste the Share Code.
Click Connect / Join.
These are the most common reasons friends can’t join:
UPnP is disabled on your router (or your router doesn’t support it).
Your internet setup has “Strict NAT” or “Double NAT” (multiple routers/modems).
Your ISP uses CGNAT (shared public IP), which can block hosting.
Workaround: using a VPN-style LAN tool (like Tailscale) can sometimes make joining work even if port forwarding isn’t possible.
Use this if you want a world that stays online without you hosting in-game.
Java installed (Hytale servers require a recent Java version).
At least 4 GB RAM available.
Get the Hytale server folder (either from your Hytale install files or the official server download method).
Start the server using the Hytale server launcher/JAR.
The first time you run it, you may need to authenticate it using an in-console login command (it will provide a link + code to authorize).
The server uses UDP networking (not TCP), so any firewall/router changes must allow UDP.
To allow players to join from the internet, you usually need all three of these:
Port forward the server port on your router (default is commonly 5520).
Allow the same UDP port through your computer’s firewall.
Share your public IP + port (example format: your public IP, colon, the port number).
In Hytale, go to Servers.
Choose Add Server or Direct Connect.
Enter the server address in this format: IP address : port
Click Join.
If you don’t want to deal with port forwarding/NAT issues:
Rent a Hytale server from a hosting provider.
They give you a server IP and a control panel.
You join it the same way: Servers → Add Server → IP:Port

There is no doubt that Hytale has a bright future. The current developers and owners have a 10-year plan and on Day 1 they already have enough from prepurchases that the game has two-full years of develpment costs.
With the expectation of over 1 Million Players on Day 1 of Early Access, it is apparent that this game has the hype.
