Generation Z Gaming Behavior

Generation Z is the largest generation alive today. Persons born between 1995 and 2010 are considered to be part of Gen Z. In an aggregated number, this group of people have a tremendous spending power that will only increase as more people from Gen Z come to legal age. Gen Z are digital natives and are often mentioned as an anti-social generation. Largely due to the fact they have a lot of screen time, whether it is mobile screens, laptops or TV. They spend a lot of time interacting and watching digital content. However, anti-social only applies to the traditional views of being social. Contrary to other generations, Gen Z interact a lot online through mobile apps, websites and games. One could argue that gamers are a lot more social than many people who do not play games. The social medium is different, online versus offline. Offline over a cup of coffee or online in a game.

There is always demand for a greater gaming experience

While gaming is a mature market, it only recently exploded into the multi-billion dollar industry it is today. Video and PC gaming has been around for several decades, online gaming and gambling has been around since the end of the 90s and mobile gaming has been around since the early 2000s. Regardless of what era of gaming, the limit is always pushed further for a greater gaming experience, closely correlated with technology advancements. Gaming in 2021 and beyond is no different from gaming in 2001 or 2011 when it comes to the need for innovation and better gaming experiences. Generation Z as a user-group is digitally native. As we already mentioned, most people born after 1995 had a close relationship with gaming devices from a very early age. Of course, this puts pressure on game developers and companies offering gaming content.

Lagging behind

Gaming companies in mobile games, PC and consoles are up to speed with the latest trends. There is one area of gaming that is lagging behind, online gambling. Not much innovation has taken place in the last ten years, and this is starting to show when putting online casino game content next to the types of games that Gen Z plays on their mobile devices. A crucial difference between casino games and regular mobile games is that of complexity and gameplay. Casino games are all about chance. The allure of winning and the thrill of pursuing a big win is what makes people come back. Typically, the game experience is flat, with no skill impact and single-player mode. One game that entered the market recently that addresses the shortcomings of traditional games is Cappadocia. Several players can participate in the same game sessions. There is still no skill impact, but the gameplay gives players a sense of control over the outcome of the game. Cappadocia is one of its kind, a type of interactive multiplayer casino game. More games of its kind are expected to follow in order for the sleepy online casino industry to catch up with the technology available and the expectations set by Generation Z audiences.
