New Crossplay and DLC characters releasing for Season 2 of KOFXV

New Season 2 DLC and Crossplay For KOFXV in 2023

Publish Date: August 9, 2022

SNK release details about season 2 for KOFXV including new DLC characters, and crossplay in 2023.

While pools were underway SNK, a panel full of news for King of Fighters XV, and other SNK titles were up on the main stage at Mandalay Bay.

Alongside news regarding team pass 2, SNK announces the confirmation of season 2 will include new characters and crossplay functionality.

Season 2 DLC characters

Two legacy characters were already a part of the announcement, including Shingo Yabuki, and Kim Kaphwan.

Shingo Yabuki is SNK’s take on a joke character. With a goofy but kind personality, and moves that are unprofessional and taken from series protagonist Kyo Kusanagi.

Kim Kaphwan is a taekwondo character whose first introduction comes from Fatal Fury 2. Kim is also a mainstay of the KOF series, since his appearance in The King of Fighters 94. He’s been in the base roster of every King of Fighters title, except for KOFXV where he was mysteriously missing from.  However, Kim will now return to the series as a DLC character for the first time.

Shingo and Kim are releasing sometime in 2023 with no specific date or season. More characters will release in 2023, but there is no news on the quantity.

DLC Character Roadmap

All characters from season one are a part of a team of three characters. While all can be individually chosen, The King of Fighters is a 3v3 series. Due to this season, one has a total of 12 DLC characters.  Between Team Garou and Team South Town, SNK had a free character update with Omega Rugal. Shingo and Kim on the other hand, seem to be characters that will release alone, similar to Omega Rugal.

Crossplay Confirmation

The other major announcement for King of Fighters XV is the game will receive crossplay implementation. King of Fighters XV is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows via Steam and Epic Games Store. The crossplay will cover all platforms, including PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The update will be coming in 2023, likely around the beginning of the year.

Crossplay is a vital component of the longevity of the game, along with continuous support from SNK. Hopefully, if all goes well, the player base will increase and matchmaking will be a smooth and easy process.

Guilty Gear -Strive- is another title that is receiving crossplay, however, it’s exclusive to PlayStation consoles and Steam. The King of Fighters on the other hand will be more widely accessible.

More news will likely come next year as the next season begins. There is no time frame for crossplay. Hopefully, it’ll release earlier in 2023.
