Coming all the way from Japan “Jing” became the first Evo Champion for Melty Blood: Type Lumina.
After a Grand Finals between Jing and Damian “Masoma” Fullbright, an American player with EasternMediaGG, Jing became champion out of 411 entrants.
After coming from Japan, Jin came to enter four different games at Evo, beyond Melty Blood Type Lumina. Other games include Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax Ignition, and Million Arthur: Arcana Blood. The other titles were side tournaments for the Vortex Gallery. With his victory, he was able to win the prize money of $1,726, A custom golden Victrix Pro stick, and three Snackbox Micros.
Jing and Masoma previously faced each other during the Winners Finals where Jing would take Masoma out of the winner’s bracket. Masoma would later face Kiri in the Losers Finals and win to seek another rematch against Jing.
During the Grand Finals, Jing was almost able to sweep Masoma with a 2-0 lead, however, Masoma was able to bring it back and reset the bracket.
After the reset, Masoma was able to get a 1-2 lead on Jing but couldn’t secure a victory afterward. Jing was able to tie up the matches and on the final match of the set, get two perfects in a row.
Top 8 for Melty Blood: Type Lumina was very exciting to watch. As a newer entry in the main linup at Evo, it’s always exciting to see who will come out on top. The last game in the series as the main game at Evo was Melty Blood: Actress Again in 2010.
