The newest characters for Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Neco-Arc, and Mash Kyrielight will release on Aug. 19.
Melty Blood: Type Lumina is a 2021 sequel/reboot to the original PC fighting game Melty Blood from 2002. Melty Blood takes characters from Type-Moons visual novel from 2000, Tsukihime. Type Lumina’s release coincides with the Tsukihime remake from 2021.
Character Details
The character of Neco-Arc is a parody or “joke” character of the Tsukihime heroine Arcueid Brunstud. The character is returning to Melty Blood: Type Lumina as she previously appears in Melty Blood Act Cadenza.
The game director Kamone Serizawa describes Neco-Arc as a “Very tricky character, has a lot of funny attacks, with more jokes and references than ever.” Neco-Arc is a fan favorite character that has become a part of a niche meme culture. In her gameplay, she references other characters in the series. Her special is also a reference to Fate/Grand Order, using Saber’s weapon Excalibur and bringing UI elements from the mobile game. However, the developers state she “Requires a lot of practice to win within versus battles.”
Mash Kyrielight originates from the famous mobile gacha game Fate/Grand Order. One of the game’s main characters and the player’s first servant for battle. Similar to her origin as a shielder in Fate/Grand Order, Mash will be using her shield as her primary weapon.
With a description of “A standard in-fighter with a lot of straightforward moves.” Mash as a crossover character from one of the most popular mobile games of all time will be easier for long-time fans. French-Bread describes Mash as “A good pick for beginners.”
Extra Content
Neco-Arc and Mash will be the game’s fourth and fifth DLC characters since launch. However, like all of the previous additional characters Mash and Neco-Arc will also be free for everyone. A seventh and eighth character is also going to be released in the winter of 2022 for free.
Other content will release alongside Neco-Arc and Mash, including character stories for the two characters and two stages.
On the same day, new scenarios for Arcueid Brunestud and Ciel will release alongside Mash and Neco-Arc. The scenarios are drafted and supervised by Type-Moon writer Kinoko Nasu and written by acpi.
Nasu is the co-founder of Type-Moon and a writer for many series including Fate, Tsukihime, and Melty Blood. As all the series share the same universe fans have given it the nickname “Nasuverse.”
acpi is a writer who has written other works for Tsukihime and Melty Blood in the past.
