Evo 2021 Online Results – Weekend Two

Publish Date: August 17, 2021

Evo 2021 Online concluded this past weekend after two weeks of competition. Week one saw many players locking in their spots for the Evo Showcase in November. This weekend also featured reveals for next year’s Evo as well as a new character for Guilty Gear Strive.

SKULLGIRLS

Skullgirls action continued during its first year as a main Evo title. This weekend saw Europe and Latin America compete in Skullgirls to determine the final contestants for the game at the Evo 2021 Showcase.

Starting in Europe, Mr. Peck won the grand finals set against Mr. Bors after a bracket reset. The battle of misters was followed by Receita Federal taking down Jorjão in a Big Band mirror during Latin America grand finals. These champions join last week’s Asia and North America winners for the offline finals in November.

MORTAL KOMBAT 11

Due to no Asia bracket taking place, this week’s only MK11 action was the North America bracket. A favorite going into the weekend, NinjaKilla won yet another tournament with his notorious Liu Kang. The grand finals set was a 3-1 victory for NinjaKilla over Jueks. This was a rematch of the winners finals set that secured NinjaKilla’s spot in the grand finals on winner’s side.

TEKKEN 7

Tekken 7 had four separate brackets this weekend. While Latin America was split between LATAM South and LATAM Central, Europe was also separated by EU East and EU West.

One of the Dominican Republic’s finest players, Energie Marduk took the LATAM Central bracket without losing a single game in the process. Meanwhile in LATAM South, Sergie Mazter won an exciting grand finals reset against Abel Del Maestro to take first place.

The European Tekken brackets took place the following day as LMG MoB took down Why in a close 3-2 grand finals victory to win EU East. Following that, internationally-known player Super Akouma won EU West with a convincing 3-0 over JoKa.

STREET FIGHTER V

Street Fighter V had two Latin America brackets and two Asia brackets this past weekend. While Kusanagi won LATAM Central in a grand finals reset over MonoPR, HorusPaulin won LATAM South after a bracket reset aganst Dark.

Former Evo champion Xian took first place in Asia South after defeating IamChuan’s Guile in grand finals. Following this, YHC-Mochi forced a bracket reset against Kawano, but Kawano took first place with a close 3-2 win.

GUILTY GEAR STRIVE

Two of the weekend’s most anticipated brackets were the GGST Asia and North America tournaments. Before the North America top eight began, ArcSystemWorks officially announced Jack-O’ as the game’s next DLC character.

The Asia bracket was won by Korean Axl player Xyzzy, resetting the bracket against Daru_I-No and taking first place with a 3-1 victory.

Closing out Evo 2021 Online was the North America bracket for Guilty Gear Strive. Despite stirring drama over their controversial tweets about GGST, SonicFox ended up claiming second place in the tournament. Guilty Gear veteran Hotashi took first place in the final Evo 2021 Online bracket, winning the grand finals set 3-2 with his optimized Nagoriyuki.

EVO 2022 ANNOUNCED

During the second Evo 2021 Online weekend, Evo 2022 was officially announced. Returning to Las Vegas next year, the open bracket event takes place August 5-7, 2022.

Evo has been a cornerstone of fighting games for nearly two decades now, and the relative success of Evo 2021 Online kept the tournament series afloat until the hopeful offline return in 2022. In the meantime, fans have the Evo 2021 Showcase to look forward to in November as online champions aim to prove themselves at the offline finale.
