During the height of the COVID Lockdown games like Among us and other party games brought people together. One of the biggest games to do that was Fall Guys. A very popular game amongst streamers in particular. Losing some of its popularity it seems as though the developers have made a decision to help boost numbers. Fall Guys will be going to a Free to Play model.
In recent months, Fall Guys has lost popularity with steamcharts showing that Fall Guys has gone from 150,000 people playing it to an average of under 7,000. Normally when a game sees that significant of a drop they will look at going free to play. This is especially true when it is a party game.
While the price has not been overly expensive even from the beginning, having to buy Fall Guys has likely been what has kept players from joining in on the game. With an announcement like this, the game will certainly see a new spike of players. The questions become how much of one and for how long?
The date of Fall Guys Free to Play is June 21. That means for the next month or so, there likely won’t be any new players.
Along with this, the game will be introduced on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox and Epic Games Store. And smartly, crossplay and crossprogression will be added as well. This means that players will be able to play for free on essentially any new console and won’t lose any progress.
It will be interesting to see if this update also prompts players on streaming platforms to pick up the game again. If it does then the game could see a very nice resurgence.
