College Football 26 developers tease two new major Dynasty features

Publish Date: May 29, 2025

The reveal trailer and first developer blog for College Football 26 are here, bringing our first look at the game and its new features. While a Dynasty Deep Dive is set to come later, developers did confirm two new features coming to Dynasty mode in CFB 26 that fans will be excited to see.

College Football 26 confirms the addition of Formation Subs and Protected Opponents

The big news with Dynasty is the confirmed addition of Online Cross-Play, but developers also snuck in the following line about the inclusion of Formation Subs and Protected Opponents.

“One last note before we see you at the Dynasty Deep Dive…. We’re happy to announce that Formation Subs and a Protected Opponents setting are coming!”

  • Formation Subs should allow you to set certain players to come in over others at their position in different formations. This is great for schools like Penn State, which rotate a lot of players around, or teams that utilize a two-QB setup. This is unconfirmed, but it would be my estimation.
  • Protected Opponents should allow you to keep an opponent on your schedule no matter what, for things like in-conference rivalry games. This is also unconfirmed, but it would be my estimation.

These are small changes relative to the sweeping additions coming to modes like Road to Glory, and we will no doubt get more information in the Dynasty Deep Dive, but these are nice changes nonetheless.
